The Blood Of Dawnwalker Has A Secret Early-Game Gear Route — Here’s Where To Find The Legendary Sword And Armor
You Can Get Legendary Gear WAY Earlier Than The Game Tells You… 👀
Most players are walking past a secret chest in the opening hours of The Blood of Dawnwalker — and it can completely change your early-game build.
There’s a Legendary sword hidden in a dangerous chasm… plus another Legendary armor piece sitting in a chest you can reach surprisingly early.
And the strangest part?
You don’t need to finish some massive endgame questline to get them.
One location also leads to a hidden treasure map — but getting that treasure means dealing with something that may be even nastier than the original fight…
So where exactly are these chests?
And is the Legendary sword actually worth burning precious time to obtain?
👇 Here’s the exact early-game route and secret chest locations.

The Blood Of Dawnwalker Has A Secret Early-Game Gear Route — Here’s Where To Find The Legendary Sword And Armor
The Blood of Dawnwalker does not exactly hand Coen the tools he needs to survive. After the prologue, players are thrown into Vale Sangora with limited equipment, dangerous enemies and a brutally important 30-day clock.
But there is a major advantage hiding in the open world.
Several Legendary items can be collected surprisingly early, long before players would normally expect to see equipment of that rarity. Two of the most useful early targets are Durandal, a Legendary Longsword, and Isbrand’s Greaves, Legendary Medium Trousers found in an open-world chest.
There is also a hidden treasure route connected to Durandal that can lead to a valuable Silver Cache.
For players starting a new playthrough, knowing where to look can turn the opening hours into a much more manageable experience.
The Legendary Gear Is Hiding In Plain Sight
One of the defining ideas in The Blood of Dawnwalker is that exploration can sometimes be more valuable than simply following the main story.
The game gives Coen a huge amount of freedom once the prologue ends. While some of the strongest equipment is tied to quests and powerful enemies, several valuable items are positioned in locations that players can reach relatively early.
Current guides identify Isbrand’s Greaves as one of the easiest Legendary armor pieces to obtain. The trousers are located in a chest at the Kobold’s Nest, southwest of Rockfall. The area is guarded by a handful of enemies, but there is no major boss or lengthy quest chain required to claim the item.
That makes the Greaves particularly attractive for a fresh character.
The second major target is Durandal, a Legendary Longsword hidden inside the Cursed Chasm. Unlike Isbrand’s Greaves, reaching Durandal involves a considerably more dangerous encounter — but the reward is arguably more significant for players who want to strengthen their melee build immediately.
Where To Find Isbrand’s Greaves
The first stop is the Kobold’s Nest, located southwest of Rockfall.
Once you reach the area, look around the entrance and nearby cliffside rather than assuming the Legendary item is hidden deep inside the cave.
The chest containing Isbrand’s Greaves is positioned near the nest.
Several kobolds can be found around the area, so a low-level Coen should still approach carefully. However, the encounter is nowhere near the difficulty of some of the game’s later Legendary-item encounters.
After dealing with the enemies — or finding a way around them — open the chest.
That is all it takes.
Current guides list Isbrand’s Greaves as Legendary Medium Trousers, with one current guide giving a base value of 166 armor. The item also provides bonuses connected to Coen’s vampiric abilities, making it particularly useful for a character who intends to take advantage of both sides of his Dawnwalker nature.
There is one important catch.
Opening the chest consumes one day segment.
That matters because The Blood of Dawnwalker uses a 30-day structure in which meaningful activities consume portions of Coen’s available time. Simply exploring the world does not constantly drain the clock, but activities and objectives can advance it.
For a Legendary armor piece this early, however, many players will consider the cost worthwhile.
The Bigger Prize: Durandal
The real star of this early-game route is Durandal.
The Legendary Longsword is found during The Cursed Chasm, a side quest connected to the story of Knyaz Skender’s lost treasure.
The quest can be picked up through information connected to Svartrau, with current guides pointing players toward the broken bridge and wreckage around the chasm. Investigating the area reveals information about the lost treasure and the sword that was being transported.
From there, Coen needs to make his way into the chasm.
And this is where the easy part ends.
The bottom of the Cursed Chasm is populated by wolves and dangerous supernatural enemies, including an Echo encounter. For a character who has only recently entered free exploration, this fight can be significantly harder than the surrounding world.
That difficulty is exactly why the sword has become such an attractive early-game target.
The Secret Chest Location
Once you reach the bottom of the chasm and deal with the enemies, search the wreckage carefully.
The important loot is not necessarily sitting in an obvious conventional chest.
Guides identify the relevant wreckage and remains as the place where Durandal can be collected. One current walkthrough specifically describes the final golden skeleton/loot container as the source of Durandal, alongside the Treasure Map: Silver Cache and a crafting recipe.
This is easy to miss because the chasm contains multiple pieces of debris and loot.
Using Focus Mode is therefore useful when searching the area.
Durandal itself is a Legendary Longsword, and current sources consistently identify it as a Level 15 weapon intended to be accessible much earlier than its rarity would suggest. One current guide lists it at 234 DPS, while other dynamically scaled listings show different displayed damage values depending on the weapon’s level/scaling.
The important point is not a single displayed DPS number.
It is the combination of Legendary rarity, longsword moveset and useful stamina-related bonuses that makes Durandal such a strong early target.
Why Durandal Is So Good Early
Durandal’s biggest advantage is not simply raw damage.
Its bonuses make melee combat more forgiving by reducing stamina demands.
Current databases and guides list bonuses including reduced attack and dodge stamina costs, as well as additional effectiveness against supernatural or corrupted enemies, depending on the item’s current scaling/version display.
That matters enormously in Dawnwalker.
Combat is built around directional defense, timing and stamina management. Coen cannot simply attack continuously without consequences. Dodging, blocking and attacking all compete for resources.
A weapon that allows more attacks and defensive actions before the stamina bar is exhausted can therefore be more valuable than a sword that simply has a slightly higher damage number.
It also fits the game’s supernatural encounters particularly well.
And because weapons can be upgraded through blacksmiths, Durandal does not necessarily become obsolete immediately just because Coen’s level increases.
Don’t Leave The Silver Cache Behind
There is another reason you should thoroughly loot the Cursed Chasm.
Durandal is only part of the reward.
The area also contains the Treasure Map: Silver Cache, which begins the Finders Keepers quest.
This creates a second treasure hunt after the first one.
The map does not simply point to another chest sitting nearby.
Instead, players need to return toward the area around the Coward’s Path Shrine and follow the map’s clues through the surrounding countryside. The route eventually leads toward a rock formation and a hidden digging location.
But there is another fight waiting there.
A pack of wolves, led by a Pack Leader, guards the area.
The treasure itself is buried beneath the rock formation, and digging it up consumes two time segments. The reward includes silver items and the Silver Cache Letter, along with 100 EXP and a Skill Point for completing Finders Keepers.
That makes the entire route much more attractive than simply grabbing one sword and leaving.
You can potentially turn one exploration trip into a chain of gear, treasure, experience and progression rewards.
The Time Cost Is The Real Question
There is, however, a strategic decision every player needs to make.
Is this gear worth spending precious time on?
The answer is usually yes — but the timing matters.
The Blood of Dawnwalker divides each day and night into time segments, and meaningful quests and activities consume those segments. The game is deliberately designed around prioritization rather than completing everything in one playthrough.
The Cursed Chasm costs two time segments, according to current quest guides.
The Silver Cache’s follow-up Finders Keepers costs another two segments when the treasure is dug up. Isbrand’s Greaves require one segment to open their chest according to current guides.
So the real question isn’t whether these items are powerful.
It is whether you want to spend part of your limited calendar getting them now.
For most players experimenting with an exploration-heavy or combat-focused build, the answer is likely yes.
A Strong Early Route
A practical route is to treat these items as separate targets rather than trying to force everything into one dangerous run.
First, complete the prologue and unlock free exploration.
Then head toward Kobold’s Nest and secure Isbrand’s Greaves.
After that, prepare for the Cursed Chasm.
The enemies there are considerably more dangerous, so players should make sure they have enough healing resources and a reasonable level before committing to the encounter.
There are also ways to approach the chasm using Coen’s traversal abilities at night, potentially making movement around the dangerous terrain easier. Current guides specifically note that vampire traversal can help with the descent, although players should still be careful because falling or being caught by the enemies below can quickly turn the shortcut into a death sentence.
Once the area is cleared, thoroughly search the wreckage.
Take Durandal.
Take the Treasure Map: Silver Cache.
And loot the other valuable items before leaving.
Then decide whether to immediately pursue Finders Keepers or save the treasure hunt for later.
The Bigger Lesson For New Players
The most important thing this route demonstrates is how The Blood of Dawnwalker expects players to approach its world.
The strongest early rewards are not always sitting at the end of a major story mission.
Sometimes they are hidden behind a broken bridge.
Sometimes they are inside a chest beside a monster nest.
Sometimes the reward is not even the item you were originally looking for, but a map that sends you somewhere else entirely.
That makes exploration particularly valuable during the opening hours.
Players who simply follow quest markers may eventually find powerful equipment, but those willing to investigate suspicious locations can get an enormous head start.
And with a 30-day clock hanging over the entire adventure, finding efficient routes is more important than ever.
Isbrand’s Greaves offer one of the easiest early Legendary armor pickups.
Durandal offers a much more ambitious but potentially transformative early weapon upgrade.
And the Silver Cache gives players yet another reason to thoroughly explore the Cursed Chasm instead of grabbing the sword and immediately running away.
For anyone beginning The Blood of Dawnwalker, these locations are among the first places worth putting on the map.
Because the difference between struggling through the opening hours and suddenly feeling over-equipped may be nothing more than knowing which cliff to climb — and which supposedly ordinary chest to open.
