Palworld 1.0.3 Players Are āCheesingā Blazamut Ryu With One Surprisingly Simple Defensive Trick
Blazamut Ryu is supposed to be one of Palworld’s ultimate tests of preparation.
The Sakurajima raid boss already demands a carefully built team in its standard form, while the Ultra version pushes the encounter much further with a huge health pool, a strict 10-minute timer and a second phase that can completely change the matchup.
But players may have found a surprisingly simple way to take some of the most dangerous attacks out of the equation.
The strategy centers on Bastigor, an optimized raid army and, most importantly, the Explosion-Resistant Undershirt.
Recent Palworld 1.0.3 guides describe the combination as a ācheeseā strategy because explosion resistance can effectively neutralize several of Blazamut Ryu’s biggest attacks. The approach is particularly interesting because it can be used for both the Normal and Ultra versions of the raid.
Instead of trying to out-damage every attack, the strategy asks a different question:
What if some of Blazamut Ryu’s strongest attacks simply stopped mattering?
Why Blazamut Ryu Is So Difficult
Blazamut Ryu is a Level 55 raid boss in its standard form, while the Ultra version is a Level 80 endgame encounter.
The Ultra variant has approximately 1,025,360 HP according to current 1.0 guides and must be defeated within a 10-minute window.
That timer changes the entire nature of the encounter.
Players cannot simply build a defensive team and slowly wear the boss down.
They need enough damage to finish the fight before the clock reaches zero.
At the same time, throwing every available damage Pal into the arena isn’t necessarily enough.
Blazamut Ryu has several attacks capable of devastating a raid army, meaning players have to solve both sides of the equation:
How do you survive long enough to deal enough damage?
That is where the new cheese strategy becomes interesting.
The Boss Has a Two-Phase Problem
One of the biggest challenges in the Blazamut Ryu fight is that the boss doesn’t remain the same throughout the encounter.
The opening phase is associated with Dragon/Fire, which makes Water damage especially valuable.
Later, Blazamut Ryu changes into an Electric phase, shifting the matchup and forcing players to rethink their attack choices.
Current guides therefore recommend bringing both Water and Ground coverage.
The traditional solution is relatively straightforward:
Water army first. Ground army second.
A number of current guides recommend exactly this kind of two-army approach, with Water-focused Pals handling the opening phase and Ground attackers taking over once the boss changes form.
But the cheese strategy approaches the problem differently.
Rather than attempting to counter every dangerous attack through elemental matchups and constant repositioning, it focuses heavily on survivability.
Enter Bastigor
Bastigor has become an increasingly popular choice for raid strategies in Palworld 1.0 because of its durability and ability to maintain pressure under heavy incoming damage.
The current Ultra Raid guide built around a Bastigor army recommends using a large number of heavily optimized Bastigor as the primary damage force, with the player acting more like a support unit than the main attacker.
That approach is particularly useful against Blazamut Ryu.
The Pals remain on the battlefield and provide the bulk of the damage while the player concentrates on keeping the army alive.
This matters because Blazamut Ryu’s strongest attacks can otherwise erase large portions of a raid team.
And that’s where the unusual accessory comes in.
The Explosion-Resistant Undershirt Is the Real Trick
The most important part of the cheese setup is the Explosion-Resistant Undershirt.
Unlike conventional defensive gear that simply reduces incoming damage, the accessory is designed to provide immunity to explosion damage.
That distinction is enormous.
Current information describes the item as providing 100% explosion immunity, meaning attacks classified as explosion damage can effectively be reduced to zero.
And according to the latest Blazamut Ryu cheese guide, three of the boss’s most dangerous attacks ā Magna Crush, Brawn Impact and Blast Cannon ā are particularly important to the strategy because their explosion damage can be neutralized through the setup.
This is the moment where the encounter starts looking very different.
Instead of trying to dodge every major attack perfectly, players can build around surviving them.
The boss is still dangerous.
The timer is still ticking.
But a major portion of the incoming threat has effectively been removed.
The Setup Goes Beyond One Accessory
The cheese isn’t simply āequip the undershirt and win.ā
The current strategy combines several layers of preparation.
The featured setup uses a Bastigor-centered raid army, with the Pals prepared specifically for sustained combat. The guide recommends feeding the Bastigor team Seafood Pasta before entering the fight, while the player uses the Explosion-Resistant Undershirt alongside heat-resistant armor.
Additional food buffs are used to support the player’s attack and defense.
The player can also carry ranged weapons such as the Drone Launcher and Plasma Rifle, allowing them to contribute damage without unnecessarily pulling Blazamut Ryu away from the Pal army.
The philosophy is therefore quite different from a traditional solo boss build.
The player isn’t necessarily trying to become the strongest entity in the arena.
The player is trying to make the entire raid machine more reliable.
Why Seafood Pasta Matters
This is one of the less obvious parts of the strategy.
The current cheese guide specifically warns against simply replacing Seafood Pasta with a conventional defensive food without replacing the lost resistance elsewhere.
According to the guide, doing so can cause Bastigor teams to start taking burn damage and heavy physical damage much more aggressively, causing the army to disappear far faster than expected.
That means the strategy isn’t based on one magical item.
It is based on stacking complementary defensive effects.
The explosion immunity handles a particular class of devastating attacks.
The food and Pal setup handle the remaining damage.
The result is a team that can remain in combat long enough for its sustained DPS to become more important than Blazamut Ryu’s burst attacks.
The Fight Still Has a Timer
This is where the word ācheeseā can be misleading.
The strategy doesn’t remove the raid’s most fundamental restriction.
You still have to kill Blazamut Ryu before the 10-minute timer expires.
Current raid references confirm the 10-minute limit for Palworld raid encounters.
So surviving isn’t enough.
The player still needs a sufficiently strong damage army.
That is why Bastigor optimization matters.
A weak Bastigor army may survive longer but still fail because the clock runs out.
A high-DPS army that constantly gets wiped out may also fail.
The cheese works because it attempts to find the middle ground:
enough durability to stay alive + enough damage to beat the timer.
Normal Blazamut Ryu Is the Easy Version
The strategy becomes even more interesting because it isn’t limited to the Ultra encounter.
Normal Blazamut Ryu is considerably less demanding.
Current guides describe the standard raid as a Level 55 encounter with roughly 512,000 HP, compared with around 1.025 million for Ultra.
That means players with a sufficiently strong endgame team can often defeat the standard version without needing such an elaborate setup.
Still, the cheese strategy has an obvious advantage here.
If the player is already maintaining a Bastigor army and explosion-resistant equipment for Ultra, the same basic preparation can make Normal Blazamut Ryu extremely comfortable.
The strategy therefore isn’t necessarily about solving a problem that players couldn’t otherwise solve.
It’s about making a difficult encounter more repeatable.
The Traditional Two-Army Strategy Still Works
It is important not to confuse the cheese strategy with the only viable strategy.
Current guides continue to recommend the conventional Water-to-Ground approach.
One recent strategy uses Water-focused Pals such as Shaolong for the first phase, with Ground coverage available for the Electric portion.
Another current guide recommends a dedicated Water army for phase one and Ground attackers for phase two, including Pals such as Anubis and Knocklem.
This approach has an obvious advantage:
It directly exploits the boss’s elemental changes.
The downside is complexity.
The player needs to prepare two separate groups of Pals and manage the transition between them.
The Bastigor cheese strategy attempts to simplify that process by making durability the primary solution.
Why Some Players Prefer the Cheese
For experienced players, the appeal is obvious.
Breeding and optimizing an entire second raid army takes time.
A player might need to maximize IVs, condense Pals, obtain the right passive skills, teach appropriate attacks and prepare enough food and equipment.
Doing that once is manageable.
Doing it for every raid boss can become a serious endgame grind.
A robust Bastigor army offers a different proposition.
Build one powerful army.
Optimize it heavily.
Then adapt its skills and support setup depending on the boss.
That is also the philosophy behind recent Ultra Raid guides that use Bastigor as the primary damage party across multiple encounters.
The Community Is Still Divided on āCheeseā Strategies
The Blazamut Ryu fight has generated plenty of experimentation within the Palworld community.
Some players continue to use traditional elemental counters.
Others are experimenting with highly optimized player-damage builds.
One recent Reddit player even reported defeating Blazamut Ryu Ultra with a player-damage build and only one damage-focused Panthalus actively deployed, illustrating just how diverse the current 1.0 raid meta has become.
Other players have reported the opposite experience.
A four-player group discussing Ultra Raid strategies said Blazamut Ryu was the encounter they struggled with most, despite using different strategies and heavily optimized Pals. They specifically noted running out of time during the second phase.
That contrast is revealing.
There is no single universally dominant strategy.
A build that looks almost effortless for one highly optimized player may still be extremely difficult for another player who lacks the required Pals, equipment or research bonuses.
The Real āCheat Codeā Is Preparation
Perhaps the most important lesson from the cheese strategy is that it isn’t really a shortcut.
It is an optimization shortcut.
The player isn’t skipping preparation.
They’re investing heavily in preparation so that the actual fight becomes easier.
That’s a familiar pattern in Palworld’s endgame.
The more time players spend optimizing Pals, passives, food, equipment and positioning, the less mechanical difficulty remains inside the actual raid.
Blazamut Ryu becomes less about reaction speed and more about preparation.
And the Explosion-Resistant Undershirt is a perfect example of that philosophy.
A single specialized accessory can completely change how a player approaches a boss when its mechanics line up with the accessory’s effect.
Will This Strategy Stay This Strong?
That’s the obvious question.
Palworld 1.0.3 is still relatively young, and raid strategies continue to evolve as players test interactions between new equipment, Pals and boss mechanics.
The current version of the Explosion-Resistant Undershirt cheese is particularly interesting because it relies on how specific attacks are classified.
If a future balance update changes the damage classification, the effectiveness of the strategy could change immediately.
But if the interaction remains intact, the accessory is likely to remain an important piece of specialized raid equipment.
That’s especially true for players farming Blazamut Ryu repeatedly.
The Bottom Line
Blazamut Ryu remains a serious endgame challenge.
The Ultra version has a large health pool, a strict timer and a major phase transition that can punish poorly prepared teams.
But the current 1.0.3 cheese strategy offers an intriguing alternative.
Instead of trying to dodge every devastating attack, players can build around Bastigor’s durability and explosion immunity, using the Explosion-Resistant Undershirt to neutralize some of Blazamut Ryu’s most dangerous attacks.
It doesn’t make the raid completely free.
It doesn’t eliminate the 10-minute timer.
And it doesn’t replace the need for a properly optimized Pal army.
What it does is arguably more useful:
It removes some of the most dangerous failure points from the encounter.
And when you’re fighting a boss where one bad attack can wipe out an entire raid party, that’s a very big deal.
For now, Blazamut Ryu may still be one of Palworld 1.0’s toughest bosses.
But if this strategy continues to work as intended, the fight may no longer be about surviving everything the boss throws at you.
It may simply be about watching your Bastigor army stand there and say:
āGo ahead. Hit us.ā
