GTA 5 Now Runs at 60 FPS on a PS5 Emulator, and GTA 6 Is the Obvious Next Question
PS5 Emulation has taken another sizeable step forward, with GTA 5 now running at roughly 40 to 60 FPS through KyTyPS5 on PC. The footage only covers part of the opening prologue, but getting a major PS5 game into actual gameplay this early is a significant step for the still-young emulator.
It may seem like an odd game to showcase PS5 emulation with. After all, GTA 5 has been on PC for more than a decade and can run well beyond 60 FPS on capable hardware, so there is little reason to emulate the console version just to play the game. The appeal here is what this progress could mean for newer PS5 releases.
This development now puts GTA 6 in an entirely different light. Rockstar’s next game arrives on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, and the company has yet to announce a PC version. With the console release now fast approaching, every step forward in PS5 emulation is bound to attract a little more attention from PC players.

The latest demonstration from BrutalSam shows the PS5 version of GTA 5 running its North Yankton prologue on a PC with a Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Radeon RX 7900 XT. Performance reaches roughly 40 to 60 FPS, although visual problems remain and the footage is still far from a complete playthrough:
KyTyPS5 was nowhere near this point in July 2026. Its first release was published on July 19 (via GitHub), and GTA 5 initially progressed only as far as its menus and settings. It can now get through the opening section with enough of the game working to produce recognizable 3D gameplay, which is a sizeable jump for such a young project.
A newer test shows the same prologue running at roughly 20 to 30 FPS on a Radeon RX 6600 paired with a Core i3 12100F. YouTube channel PSXTech has also shown splash screens for Silent Hill: The Short Message and Astro Bot through SharpEmu, while Red Dead Redemption gives KyTyPS5 another Rockstar title to contend with.
That still leaves a lot of work ahead. KyTyPS5 remains an early project, and getting into a game is very different from running an entire title reliably. Even so, going from a menu in July to recognizable 3D gameplay at these frame rates by September is difficult to dismiss.

The obvious question is whether this progress could eventually lead to Grand Theft Auto VI running through a PS5 emulator. The two games also share Rockstar’s proprietary RAGE engine lineage, although the upcoming juggernaut uses a much newer and more heavily upgraded version built for current-generation hardware.
It is also true that GTA 5 has more than a decade of development history behind it, having moved from PS3 and Xbox 360 to PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. GTA 6 was built for modern consoles from the outset, so its demands on an emulator could be considerably higher.
Even so, the timing could hardly be more interesting. GTA 6 arrives in just over two months, while KyTyPS5 has gone from loading menus to running a portion of GTA 5 in actual gameplay. There is no way to know when, or if, the game will become playable through an emulator, but if the emulation scene keeps progressing at this rate, GTA 6 is an obvious candidate for the next major test.
