John Wick: Chapter 4 is the most recent entry in the beloved John Wick franchise, bringing Keanu Reeves’ iconic assassin back for another bout against the members of the High Table. This time, however, Wick has met his match, with several new assassins hunting him down. This includes the blind assassin Caine, played by Donnie Yen, with him being in debt to the High Table and being asked to hunt down the Baba Yaga by Marquis Vincent de Gramont.
John Wick 4 Repeats Donnie Yen’s Blind Fighter Role From Rogue One

Donnie Yen is a blind fighter in John Wick: Chapter 4, but his role as Caine in the film isn’t the first time he has played a character like this. Yen also played an incredibly skilled blind fighter in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, with parallels between the two characters being drawn immediately by fans of both films. In Rogue One, Yen plays Chirrut Imwe, a member of the Guardians of the Whills who helped to steal the plans for the Death Star.
Although Donnie Yen has played a variety of characters before, John Wick: Chapter 4 and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story may be his two most well-known films. This means that both Caine and Chirrut are probably his most well-known characters, which is why its odd that they both fall into the category of blind fighters. This is made even stranger by the fact that Donnie Yen isn’t blind, causing the coincidence to be even odder.
Caine Is A Completely Different Role To Rogue One’s Chirrut (Despite Similarities)

Although both characters may be blind fighters, Caine in John Wick: Chapter 4 is a completely different role to Chirrut in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In Rogue One, Chirrut is a wise member of the team of heroes who steals the Death Star. He is arguably the most skilled of all of them, although his fighting abilities are only matched by his wisdom.
Caine deviates from this massively in several different ways. While Chirrut is a protagonist, Caine is an antagonist, with his shootout at the end of John Wick: Chapter 4 proving this. On top of that, Caine is a lot more grounded, with him exceeding in hand-to-hand combat while Chirrut’s fighting style relies on the fantasy of Star Wars. So, while it is fun to note the similarities between the two characters, Donnie Yen’s Rogue One and John Wick: Chapter 4 characters aren’t the same.
