By leaning heavily into Smur’s time-manipulation mechanics and unarmed combat abilities, players are trivializing the game’s most difficult encounters, turning the grimdark Soulslike into a chaotic, rapid-fire beat ’em up.
Popularized by gaming creator Medieval Marty, the build effectively acts as an “Easy Mode” for players struggling against the relentless denizens of the Undermether. But finding Smur and unlocking his true potential requires careful planning and a deep understanding of the game’s scarce resources.
Discovering Smur the Apostate
Unlike standard Shells found resting near main roads, Smur the Apostate requires a specific pilgrimage to acquire.
Starting from the Marrow Keep beacon, players must travel north via the teleport network, bypassing the Widow’s Overlook and descending toward a large island network. The destination is a fractured slab located just south of the Outskirts of Notched Beacon.
However, Smur isn’t simply lying in wait. Players will find three distinct circular glyphs on the ground in this area. To summon the Shell, players must interact with each glyph and make a blood offering—sacrificing a significant portion of their own health. Once all three offerings are made, Smur’s shattered form materializes on the central slab, allowing the player to enter a memory sequence and claim the Shell.
The Mechanics of Miracle and Chaos
Smur the Apostate is fundamentally different from every other Shell in Mortal Shell 2. His entire combat identity is built around a unique active ability known as Miracle.
When activated, the player sacrifices half of their current health to completely freeze time.
