Megan Thee Stallion set the stage on fire at the 2024 BET Awards with a dramatic and memorable performance.

The Grammy-winning artist opened the show with a powerful rendition of her song “Hiss,” stepping out from a cracked snake egg in a shiny green and gold latex bodysuit and calf-high boots.

The performance featured fiery graphics and snake imagery, a recurring theme in her recent work, and the rapper invited the crowd to “turn up with the ‘hot girls.'”

Accompanied by dozens of backup dancers in matching outfits, Megan transitioned into a high-octane dance number and continued with her song “Boa” from her latest album, MEGAN.

The performance was punctuated with her signature dance moves and concluded with “Where Them Girls At,” also from her new album.

The night’s lineup of performers includes Latto, Muni Long, Sexyy Red, and Victoria Monét, but Megan’s opening act will be hard to top. Megan made a second appearance later in the evening, joining GloRilla for their hit “Wanna Be.”

At 29, Megan is up for four BET Awards: Video of the Year, Best Collaboration for “Bongos” with Cardi B, Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, and the BET Her Award.

Taraji P. Henson, returning for her third stint as the show’s host, was among the many fans eagerly anticipating Megan’s performance. Henson, 53, had recently praised Megan after watching her perform live during the Hot Girl Summer Tour in Los Angeles on June 21.

“That was my first time seeing her perform live on her stage, headlining. She’s amazing,” Henson told PEOPLE. “She has been able to withstand all of the adversity and rise above it. She’s incredible. I love you Megan, and I’m so proud of you. That’s my baby girl, by the way.”

Following the BET Awards, Megan will head to the UK to kick off the European leg of her tour.

The 2024 BET Awards aired live on June 30 at 8 p.m. ET/PT from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.
