Phil Collins’ daughter Lily Collins has hit back at the “nepo baby” label as she admits she worked hard for her career.
Lily Collins, 33, is the talk of Netflix right now as the latest season of Emily in Paris was released this week. However, the actress has been involved in a “nepo-baby” debate, discussing if she was handed her career because of her father being Genesis’ frontman, Phil Collins, 71. However, the actress has hit back at these claims as she worked hard to make sure she was seen as “not just as his daughter”.
Lily recently spoke to a French publication about her career being seen as a “free pass” due to her father.
She smirked: “It was out of the question that people would think that I use a free pass thanks to my name.
“I’m proud of my dad, but I wanted to be me, not just his daughter. For that, I was ready to wait to break through”, she told Vogue France.
Lily is not the only star who has been dubbed a “nepo baby” to speak out on the topic. The Batman star Zoë Kravitz, daughter of actor-musician Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet, also hit back at the label.

Speaking of the topic to GQ, she explained: “It’s completely normal for people to be in the family business.
“It’s literally where last names came from. You were a blacksmith if your family was, like, the Black family.”
Zoe also spoke of her “deep insecurities” as a teen as she admitted at the time she didn’t want to get into the acting business because of her parents.
She was one of the main stars to be placed on the cover of a recent New York Magazine Cover, titled: “The Year of the Nepo Baby.”

They explored the connections of different celebrities like Maya Hawke, Dakota Johnson, Maude Apatow and many others with their famous parents, godparents or relatives.
Vulture replied to the magazine cover on Twitter: “We love them, we hate them, we disrespect them, we’re obsessed with them.
