The Chicago Sky suffered a brutal loss on Wednesday, September 11, at the hands of the Washington Mystics, 89-58. It was an undeniably deflating loss for Chicago, which ended their brief two-game winning streak.
Angel Reese, who recently underwent season-ending surgery on her injured wrist, still made her presence felt in this one, albeit from the bench. At one point during the game, the rookie sensation was involved in an animated discussion with Sky star Chennedy Carter during a timeout.
It appears that Reese was offering some words of encouragement for her teammate amid the blowout — a moment that quickly went viral on social media.
As of writing, it has been just two and a half hours since this video was uploaded. However, it’s already amassed close to 25,000 views. This same clip has also been posted by other accounts on X (formerly Twitter), and those, too, have had their fair share of views and interactions.
For what it’s worth, Carter, who is Chicago’s top scorer on the season, did all she could to carry her team in this one. She finished with a game-high 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting, to go along with two rebounds and an assist in just 24 minutes of action.
This loss has the Sky falling to 13-23. They currently still occupy the eighth and final seed heading into the WNBA Playoffs, but the Mystics and the Atlanta Dream are hot on their tail. At this point, Chicago is just one game ahead of both teams, with four games remaining in the regular season.
