Ice Spice is shedding some light on how she gets along with her “Barbie World” collaborator Nicki Minaj, and the news is…mixed.
The Bronx rapper spilled the beans in a conversation with Rolling Stone, published on Thursday (July 25).
“We don’t have the closest relationship, you know? But we’re definitely good,” she told RS. “We’re mutuals. We had smash records together. I love us together. I think the world does too.”
Ice also elaborated on text messages of hers that were leaked a few months ago, where she expressed frustration at Minaj over the business details of their “Barbie World” collab.
“I don’t really think she cares about shit like that coming from a random girl,” the “Munch” rapper said of Minaj. “But what I said in those texts was just in a moment of frustration around contract negotiations. I could have chose different words. But at the end of the day, regardless of how I felt in that moment, [Nicki] is still somebody I respect as an artist, and I’m always going to admire everything she’s done for me and the culture.”
Those texts first surfaced on May 3 when Baby Storme — herself an aspiring singer and rapper — posted screenshots of a conversation alleged to be between herself and the Bronx native. Ice Spice appears to have confirmed the legitimacy of the messages with her response to Rolling Stone‘s questions about them.
In a second post, Ice Spice can also be seen claiming that the “Starships” rapper is “jealous” of her “because I own my own masters.”
That was the second time that Baby Storme has tried to get at Ice Spice. Previously, she took to X (formerly known as Twitter) on April 27 to further “expose” her former friend.
Along with pictures and screenshots of texts, she pledged to expose the 24-year-old for being a fake friend and a bad person.
“this is Cleo,” she wrote with a photo of Ice and a girl named Cleopatra. “the girl she chose to be her ‘best friend to the public.’ when in reality, it was me behind the scenes.
“Cleo & her are not really best friends. Isis has always hated Cleo. But she used her so she could appear ‘closer to blackness.’ she also lied about being Nigerian. she stole that from me.”
