Jason Whitlock: Angel Reese is ‘Destroying’ Herself Chasing Caitlin Clark

Watch Jason Whitlock of Blaze TV’s Fearless explain why he thinks Angel Reese is ‘destroying herself’ by trying to tether herself to Caitlin Clark’s career, as Whitlock says Reese is beginning to get unfairly judged at too high of a curve for her own abilities because of her unrealistic pursuit of the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year Award.

Check out the segment above as Whitlock details why he thinks the former hotly contested Rookie of the Year race put Reese’s unrefined game under a national microscope of denigration, with Whitlock adding that a good player like Reese should have never been pitted alongside one of the most dynamic talents in WNBA history like Clark, which only resulted in Reese trying to overcompensate with terribly inefficient stat-chasing on offense.

Jason Whitlock: “Angel Reese is paying the cost at this moment for attaching her brand to Caitlin Clark’s brand. If Angel Reese were disconnected from Caitlin Clark and we just evaluated Angel Reese’s performance without comparing it to Caitlin Clark, and without having this ridiculous Rookie of the Year conversation, we’d all be sitting here like ‘MAN, WHAT A GREAT REBOUNDER, ENERGY PLAYER, AND DEFENSIVE PLAYER ANGEL REESE IS! IF SOMEONE COULD HELP HER FIGURE OUT HOW TO PERFORM OFFENSIVELY, MAN SHE’S GOING TO BE A REAL IMPACT PLAYER IN THE WNBA!’… Instead, because she compares herself to Caitlin Clark, we’re actually sitting here going ‘MAN, THIS WOMAN CAN BARELY SHOOT A LAYUP!’… Before last night’s game against the Phoenix Mercury, I think in her previous five games she had shot 29% from the field. All of her shots are within 2, 3, 4-feet and she can’t even make 29% of them.

She would be getting celebrated had she not attached herself to Caitlin Clark. Sunday night she started to hit the mid-range game and face up shots because she had no chance of getting those layups against Brittney Griner. Angel Reese has such an awkward left-handed shot. She shoots it from her shoulder, she doesn’t shoot it at eye level. That’s why her stuff gets swatted. Her biggest problem is the Caitlin Clark comparison. She’s being destroyed by chasing the Rookie of the Year thing, which she has no chance. She wants to be a dynamic offensive player but she’s just not right now. She’s a great rebounder, great energy, very good player, but comparing herself and attaching herself to Caitlin Clark is actually destroying Angel Reese.

Get away from the Caitlin Clark comparison. It’s a lose/lose. In every statistical way, in every impact way, it’s just not even the same. One team is going backwards, one team is going forward — people don’t want to see the Fever in the playoffs. The Fever could end up in the WNBA Finals, you heard it here first.”

Steve Kim: “She’s going to break a backboard one day, and not like the way Daryl Dawkins did. One of those bricks is going to shatter the backboard. If China ever wants to renovate that Great Wall that they have, send her over! She will reinforce that thing real good for another 1,000 years! Seeing a lot of mea culpas on X of people saying ‘two months ago I had Angel Reese as my Rookie of the Year…’ You can just see the pain in their typing. ‘… But right now it’s not even a race. It’s the ‘White b*tch’. They hate to say it but I respect the honesty and I respect the integrity of these people. That Rookie of the Year now is a runaway blowout. It’s a landslide. If it were a political election it would be Reagan-Mondale in 1980.”
