Sean ‘Puffy’ Combs with Jennifer Lopez in the audience at the 1st Annual Latin Grammy Awards broadcast on Wednesday, September 13, 2000 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA.
It’s no secret that Diddy and actress and singer Jennifer Lopez dated briefly from 1999 to 2001. But if you’ve ever wondered if the pair would ever get back together (you know, prior to all his legal issue)—a newly resurfaced clip may hold the answer.
The video is an excerpt from a nearly 10-year-old interview between JLo and Wendy Williams on her eponymous daytime talk show where Wendy expressed how she always felt like she could see the “Maid in Manhattan” star getting back together with Diddy. While JLo immediately laughd and the audience boo’d, it’s the reaction of JLo’s mom Guadalupe Rodriguez that has folks online wondering if she knew Diddy was no good from the jump.
See for yourself:
Seemingly mouthing “it’s done” vehemently, JLo’s mom was clearly against the mere thought of her daughter getting back with the Bad Boy mogul and honestly, who could blame her?
Do we need to remind you of the time “Jenny From the Block” and Puff Daddy were arrested after an argument gone bad at a club in New York City back in December 1999 that resulted in three people getting shot? Diddy, JLo and their bodyguard at the time Anthony “Wolf” Jones famously left the scene but were later caught by NYPD officers and detained once they found a stolen gun inside their car. Though charges were quickly dropped against the “Monster-In-Law” star, Diddy, his bodyguard and Jamal “Shyne” Barrow, the young rapper/Diddy’s protege that was also present with them at the time, all faced legal ramifications.
As a result, Diddy and and Wolf were acquitted but Shyne served a nine-year bid in prison despite the fact that one of the women who was injured years ago alleged that Diddy was the one holding the gun and not him.
If Diddy could allegedly let his own mentee in a sense serve time for a crime he actually committed, there’s no wonder why JLo’s mom wasn’t here for a rekindling of their romance.
