The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 premiered on Netflix on October 17, 2024. After a year of hiatus, the show returned with another 10 episodes. The legal drama continued the story of lawyer Mickey Haller, who found himself defending another client accused of murder while navigating the personal drama that accompanied his work.

The release of The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 also prompted fans to revisit storylines from past seasons. One of the major events that is trending right now is the death of Jerry Vincent in the show, and exactly why Judge Holder went forward with killing the character in the first season of The Lincoln Lawyer.

Jerry’s life ultimately ended because he interfered in a jury-rigging conspiracy that was being run by Judge Holder. Once she became aware of Vincent’s interference, she decided to kill him to avoid suspicion and to secure monetary gain as well.

Holder killed Vincent due to his interference in a jury-rigging conspiracy

After it was revealed that Trevor did murder his wife and her boyfriend in The Lincoln Lawyer season 1, Mickey started investigating who had made a threat to his life. Alongside this, Mickey was also suspicious of Jerry Vincent’s death and decided to investigate further into who killed his former colleague and why—this reason was also tied to the threat made to Mickey.

While Mickey initially thought the threat might have come from the Russian billionaire Trevor mentioned earlier in the season of The Lincoln Lawyer, it actually turned out to be Juror Number 7, better known as McSweeney. It was revealed that he killed Jerry on the orders of Judge Holder, as she had figured out that Vincent Jerry had interfered in her jury-rigging side hustle, which caused huge problems for her.

Additionally, it was revealed that Trevor had bribed Holder and her husband to rig the juror list in his favor. Judge Holder admitted all of this while being wiretapped, which led to her arrest by Detective Griggs, who was also investigating Jerry Vincent’s death.

Why was Judge Holder rigging the juror lists in The Lincoln Lawyer?

However, the main question is why Judge Holder was rigging the juror lists in the show. The answer boils down to her getting monetary gain out of it. Having developed a reputation for accepting bribes, she maintained a side hustle that allowed her to profit from biasing cases. Thus, Trevor became one of her clients.

This ultimately cost Jerry Vincent’s life, as he was targeted and killed due to Holder’s greed. Alongside Jerry, Mickey would have been on the list to die next as well due to him following down the same path, but thanks to Detective Griggs, he did escape death several times.
