All five episodes of Outer Banks season 4 part 1 were released on Netflix on October 10, 2024. The second part of season 4, also comprising five episodes, is scheduled to be released on November 7, 2024.
Outer Banks season 4 part 1 picks up from where season 3 ended; the Pogues have accepted Wes Genrette’s offer to find Blackbeard’s treasure, more specifically, an amulet. In exchange for finding the amulet that originally belonged to Blackbeard’s wife, Elizabeth Teach, the Pogues are promised a sum of $50K, which they need given their current state of penury.
Soon, the amulet-hunt becomes a far grander affair, and Outer Banks season 4 part 1 shocks the viewers with several big revelations along the way. For instance, it is revealed that JJ’s real parents are Larissa Genrette and Chandler Groff. In other words, he was born a Kook.
The synopsis of season 4 of the series reads: “The Pogues return home and start living their best life, but it’s not long before they’re back to doing what they do best: hunting for treasure.”
The final episode of Outer Banks season 4 part 1, titled Albatross, features several twists. Read on to find out how part 1 of season 4 ends.
Outer Banks season 4 part 1: JJ is not a ‘full’ Pogue it seems
The premise for the fourth season of the series is actually provided by JJ. After the successful El Dorado adventure, the Pogues became quite rich. However, JJ, ever so reckless, gambled off a large chunk of the money. Thus, the Pogues not only lose a good measure of their wealth, but they also need more money to pay off the property tax.
That is why they accept the amulet mission in the first place. However, Outer Banks season 4 part 1 continues the trend of the overall story by mixing adventurous moments with deeply personal and character-defining moments.
The final episode of part 1 explains the shocking title of the episode. Midway through it, JJ saves his father from the law enforcement authorities, and together they flee to a lighthouse. It is in this lighthouse that JJ’s father, Luke, reveals that he is not actually JJ’s father.
Rather, his biological parents are Larissa Genrette and Chandler Groff (which makes him the grandson of Wes Genrette). “Albatross” is the name of the boat on which Larissa Genrette died several years ago.
What is the treasure the Pogues are after?
In the first few episodes of Outer Banks season 4 part 1, the treasure the Pogues are after seems to be nothing more than the amulet that belonged to Elizabeth Teach. However, as the episodes progress, intriguing conspiracies come to the fore.
After a series of misadventures, the Pogues finally get hold of the amulet. However, Pope, the smartest member of the group, realizes that the directions on Blackbeard’s amulet lead further to a crypt underneath a cemetery in the heart of Charleston.
The Pogues, being the Pogues, want to follow the lead provided by the amulet, which might lead to the discovery of bigger treasures. Further, Cleo now has personal reasons to go after the big target.

Sad deaths of father figures have been a constant in the series, and Outer Banks season 4 part 1 is no different. Cleo has become friends with Sarah and John B, and in this season, she joins the Pogues in their search for the treasure of Blackbeard.
Unfortunately, Terence, her father figure, is also on the mission but as part of a rival gang—the one headed by Lightner. Naturally, things come to a head as the mercenary Lightner seeks to eliminate competition, and tries to attack Cleo.
Terence jumps in her defense, and in the process loses his life at Lightner’s hands. Thus, Cleo wants to see the mission through, if only because that would enable her to pursue Lightner for revenge.
Where do the Pogues stand by the end?
The Pogues are in deep trouble by the end of Outer Banks season 4 part 1. Following the directions provided in the amulet, they reach a church. Pope and Sarah volunteer to go down below the church. Their rivals, Lightner and his boss, Dalia, are close behind them.
After they reach the crypt portrayed on the amulet, the place is inundated with water. Further, Sarah and Pope see barnacles on the ceiling, which suggests that the inundation happens frequently in the crypt. To make matters worse for them, there are rats all around.
As Outer Banks season 4 part 1 ends, two of the Pogues are trapped inside the crypt, while John B and Cleo are right outside, trying to help them.
