‘People think we need to go to an asylum’

The day we’ve been waiting for has finally come: Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have finally explained why they keep crying their eyes out on the Wicked press tour. In case you’ve been living under the Ozdust Ballroom dance floor, you will be fully aware that every single interview Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have partaken in for the Wicked press tour, they have mostly ended up finishing it crying. Their poor eyes are permanent red puffs this month. Well, if it all seemed a touch dramatic – we finally know why.

In a junket with Buzzfeed UK, the two are told by a complimentary journalist that he understands why the two of them are now crying so much after he’s watched the film. “I also have something to say about other people who have something to say about the crying: I cried so many times last night. How can you not be crying this entire press tour?”

“See! This is what we’re trying to tell everyone,” says Cynthia Erivo, as Ariana Grande shouts “Thank you so much!”

“Thank you for saying that,” Cynthia continues. “We keep trying to say it’s not because we’re just crying out of nowhere, this experience was a huge life-changing, crazy, emotional thing.”

Ariana Grande then chimes in saying “People think we need to go to an asylum! People think we need to be locked up.” Cynthia Erivo then quips “We have therapists! This is good. We’re just grateful, we’re just happy.” Ariana nods and says “This is a lot!”

Cynthia also explained why her and Ariana have so much physical contact

There have been so many times during the Wicked press tour during the crying or when it gets emotional that Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have had a moment of physical touch. Most notably of course being the finger clutching during the whole “holding space” saga. Cynthia explained “Ari needs contact when there’s emotion. She needs to be close. So I just be there for a second.”
