Carol Peletier on The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon

The Walking Dead vet Melissa McBride teased what’s next for her fan-favorite character in the upcoming Daryl Dixon Season 2. Like Norman Reedus, McBride has been playing the role of Carol Peletier for over a decade now, since the first season of the original horror drama.

Speaking with TheWrap, McBride addressed Carol’s storyline in Daryl Dixon Season 2, revealing that fans will get to see a new side of the character, which wasn’t explored during the eleven-season run of The Walking Dead. “Without going into too much detail, we’re doing some things that I wanted to do in the original series,” McBride said. “Deal with things, deal with the repercussions of loss and things like that. Things that just — unspoken things nobody had conversations about, and how everything that they’ve been through really affects them.”

She continued, “What feels different now is that she’s healed from a lot of that. And she has really harnessed her, I guess warrior self, survivor self, and is now facing a slew of different challenges and coming to terms with things that have happened. It feels like a good progression to me, and I’m really proud of this character. I’m very excited looking forward to what’s coming next.” McBride was originally going to lead the first installment of the spinoff along with Reedus, but had ultimately dropped out of the project due to logistical reasons. However, following the show’s premiere, it was confirmed that McBride had signed on to rejoin Reedus in Daryl Dixon Season 2, which is being called The Book of Carol.

I’m very excited looking forward to what’s coming next.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is executive produced by showrunner David Zabel, Reedus, and McBride. Besides the titular Walking Dead duo, the next season will also feature the return of Season 1 cast members Clémence Poésy as Isabelle, Louis Puech Scigliuzzi as Laurent, Laika Blanc Francard as Sylvie, Anne Charrier as Genet, Romain Levi as Stéphane, and Eriq Ebouaney as Fallou.

The official Season 2 logline reads, “The Book of Carol picks up where season one left off, following fan-favorite characters Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier. They both confront old demons while she fights to find her friend, and he struggles with his decision to stay in France, causing tension at the Nest. Additionally, Genet’s movement builds momentum, setting Pouvoir on a violent collision course with the Union of Hope in the fight for France’s future.”

AMC Confirms Daryl Dixon Season 3 Renewal

Ahead of Season 2’s debut, AMC Networks had announced the Season 3 renewal of Daryl Dixon. The third installment is expected to bring Daryl and Carol to Spain, as production begins sometime this month in Madrid. According to the network, Season 3 will follow “Carol and Daryl as they continue their journey towards home and the ones they love. As they struggle to find their way back, the path takes them farther astray, leading them through distant lands with ever-changing and unfamiliar conditions as they witness the various effects of the Walker apocalypse.” So far, Reedus and McBride are the only confirmed series regulars for Season 3.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 premieres on September 29.
