House Dragon season finale

I hate to say it, but I can’t be the only one who felt like the House of the Dragon season finale was missing some major action. I really thought we might see the epic Battle of Gullet at the end of this season, and I feel like it would have been a major jaw-dropping scene to leave us on, especially because *that* fan favourite character dies while fighting.

But House of the Dragon producer Ryan Condal has now explained exactly why there was such a lack of action in the season finale, and why they thought it was better for season two to lead up the massive battle instead.

In an interview with TVLine, he explained: “When you’re trying to mount this show, which requires a tremendous amount of resources — construction, armour, costumes, visual effects — we were trying to give the Gullet, which is arguably the most anticipated — well, maybe the second most anticipated action event of Fire & Blood — trying to give it the time and the space that it deserves.

“We are building to that event. That event will happen very shortly, in terms of the storytelling of House of the Dragon. And it should be, I mean, based on what we know now, it should be the biggest thing to date that we’ve pulled off. And we just wanted to have the time and the space to do that at a level that is going to excite and satisfy the fans in a way that’s deserved.”

He added: “I apologize for the wait. but I will just say that if [the Battle of] Rook’s Rest and the Red Sowing are any indication, the team that we have together, we’re going to pull off a hell of a win with the Gullet in the future.”
