Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol episode 3.

Despite The Walking Dead ending in 2022, the franchise has continued to introduce a variety of interesting new characters throughout its modern spinoffs, but I’m worried one of Daryl Dixon‘s best additions may be at risk of being killed off. Although the zombie series has done an excellent job of extending its already impressive roster of survivors in recent years, The Walking Dead has wasted a lot of these characters. The Ones Who Live and Dead City were quick to get rid of some of their most exciting new additions, which is something Daryl Dixon has been much better at.

The spinoff has treated its supporting cast with plenty of care and elevated them into becoming a crucial part of the plot, but I’m starting to get a little worried about one character. Season 2’s chaotic third episode already proved the stakes are higher in this installment as Sylvie was killed off, which is one of the show’s biggest deaths so far. While that in itself is enough reason to be concerned about more departures, The Walking Dead has also teased Daryl Dixon‘s happy ending, and the franchise’s history suggests that this is simply too good to be true.

Isabelle Confessing Her Love For Daryl Makes Me Worried She’ll Die In Season 2

Daryl & Isabelle’s Love Story Feels Too Good To Be True

After being in captivity alongside Daryl, Isabelle confesses her love for the protagonist, but I’m afraid this will only put her in more jeopardy. The Walking Dead escalated Daryl and Isabelle’s romance arc in episode 2 as their growing chemistry culminated in them kissing. Given Daryl has had very few love stories throughout his time in the franchise – despite being one of the longest-surviving characters – the two getting together is a huge deal. Not only does it make their dynamic more interesting, but it also increases their desire to get Laurent to safety and escape to America.

Sadly, Isabelle admitting she loves Daryl only puts a bigger target on her back, as The Walking Dead rarely gives its couples a happy ending. While it would be nice to let the pair settle down like Rick and Michonne did in The Ones Who Live‘s ending, it would be even more emotional and dramatic to kill Isabelle off. L’Union has already proven that her relationship with Daryl can be used to get to the protagonist. Therefore, if Genet finds out about them, I wouldn’t be surprised if she went one step further and killed Isabelle out of revenge.

Having already been a major character, Isabelle instantly feels more important now that she’s with Daryl, but it also means her death is an easy way to invoke emotion and add more depth to Daryl’s character. He already had a rough ending to his last romantic relationship, and Isabelle dying after confessing her love could create a darker story for Daryl in season 3, proving she’s in more danger than ever.

Why The Walking Dead Should Keep Isabelle In Daryl Dixon Season 3

Isabelle Is A Great Character & Her Relationship With Daryl Would Add An Interesting

Although killing off Isabelle would be an incredibly emotional moment, Daryl Dixon should keep her alive for season 3. She is easily one of the best additions to the show, and her feelings for Daryl are genuine and well-developed. Rather than simply throwing Daryl and Isabelle together right away, the series slowly built their chemistry over the course of season 1, making their kiss in season 2 feel more earned. Alongside being a great romantic fit for Daryl, Isabelle isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty if the circumstances require, and she’s capable of handling herself.

Isabelle adds a lot to the plot and Clémence Poésy has been one of the stand-out performers among Daryl Dixon season 2’s cast.

Additionally, giving her more time to develop her relationship with Daryl would make her death even more emotional if she died in season 3 or beyond. Isabelle adds a lot to the plot and Clémence Poésy has been one of the stand-out performers among Daryl Dixon season 2’s cast, meaning getting rid of her so soon would be a mistake. I’m convinced the story still has a long way to go since it’ll be moving to Spain in the next installment, and having Isabelle around as a reliable ally and capable survivor is something the show shouldn’t take for granted.

If Isabelle Dies, I Hope Daryl Dixon Gives Us One Big Moment

Daryl Confessing His Love For Isabelle During Her Final Moments Would Be An Emotional Scene

While I don’t want to see Isabelle killed off, if Daryl Dixon does opt to pull the trigger, they need to provide one huge moment. Considering Daryl isn’t always the most emotionally open character, the fact he is pursuing a romantic relationship at all is significant. However, allowing him to confess his love to Isabelle before she dies would become one of his most iconic scenes and a great payoff to their story. Seeing the two embrace one last time while Isabelle is on the brink of death would be hard to watch, but it could still get even sadder.

If Daryl got to tell Isabelle he loved her, it would give her an unforgettable legacy in the franchise and cement her status as the best new addition after the main show. I’m still hopeful that they’ll get a happy ending, but if The Walking Dead chooses to go down its more traditionally bleak path, letting the duo have this moment would be a wholesome yet tragic end to their journey. With Isabelle in L’Union’s custody, it’s hard to know exactly where her story will go in Daryl Dixon, but it’s bound to be emotional, regardless of what happens.
