Prince Harry and Meghan Markle opened up about their relationship in their controversial Netflix series – and Harry said some of his family had doubts about his then-girlfriend

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have admitted there were some people who doubted their relationship – including some of Harry’s relatives.

The Duke of Sussex explained why he believes some members of the Royal Family thought their relationship would be short-lived, stating that one thing “clouded their judgment”. The couple made these claims in their controversial Netflix series, where they took several jabs at King Charles, Prince William, and his wife Kate Middleton.

In the second episode, the Sussexes reminisced about Meghan being introduced to Harry’s family for the first time. Harry recalled his family being “incredibly impressed” upon meeting Meghan, even joking that they were probably surprised a “ginger could land such a beautiful woman”.

However, he accused the family of having their judgment clouded by Meghan’s status as an American actress, with Meghan adding that her profession at the time was “the biggest problem”. Harry explained: “I remember my family first meeting her being incredibly impressed.

“Some of them didn’t quite know what to do with themselves. So I think they were. They were surprised. They were surprised that such a ginger could land such a beautiful woman. And such an intelligent woman.”

However, Harry noted: “But the fact that I was dating an American actress, was probably what clouded their judgment more than anything else. Oh, she’s an American actress, this won’t last long.”

Meghan added that her profession was a significant issue, saying: “The actress thing was the biggest problem, funnily enough. There is a big idea of what that looks like from the UK standpoint – Hollywood – and it’s just very easy for them to typecast that.”

Harry and Meghan first started dating in 2016 before getting married two years later. They currently live in America with their two young children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Later this month, Harry will return to the UK for the annual WellChild Awards. However, it’s believed he is unlikely to meet with his father King Charles despite both being in the UK during Harry’s visit – and it all comes down to the King’s schedule.

Just days before the WellChild Awards on September 28, Charles and Queen Camilla will be attending the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The Telegraph reports that the King is likely to spend the days following the event in Scotland, north of the border. Harry’s event is in London, which means they will be hundreds of miles apart – although there is still time for plans to be arranged for a meeting between the two.
