The upcoming second season of The Lord of the Ring: Rings of Power, has fans excited.

Actor Charlie Vickers who plays the role of Halbrand, an elf, talked about his greatest fear while on set aka his elf ears.
The actor’s wife is pregnant and since it takes him almost an hour to get his prosthetic off, he is worried he might arrive at hospital in costume.

The highly anticipated second season of The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power is soon to be released. Fans of the book and the previous season are thrilled and excited for what’s to come. Speculations are up in the air about the character of the villain in this new season.

Actor Charlie Vickers has reprised his role as the enigmatic elf Halbrand, and most of the new season is said to feature his journey. While in an interview discussing his role, the actor shockingly revealed his greatest fear. It wasn’t about the complexities of his character or filming demands, but his costume. The actor’s point was very justified and realistic for his circumstances.

The Lord of the Rings star’s unlikely fear

Charlie Vickers played the role of an elf named Halbrand in the first season of the show, The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power. Fans of LOTR have been patiently waiting for a second season, which is finally going to air soon. Vickers has also reprised his role as the mysterious dark elf, thrilling the fans.

In an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Australian actor revealed quite a lot about his character. Vickers said that his most pressing concern during filming was not his performance but his get-up.

For me, it’s an hour to get everything off.

We all know costumes and make-up take up a lot of the actor’s time, especially in a fantasy genre. Since he was playing an elf, he had an elaborate costume with prosthetics, which would take a long time to be set and then taken off.

It was kinda scary because my wife was nine months pregnant, and I was dressing up like that every day.

The Medici actor further talked about his wife being pregnant and the possibility of her going into labor at any time. Since he was always on set in costume, he feared that his prosthetics would take too much time to remove.

The ears take 45 minutes each, so that’s an hour and a half in prosthetics.

One particular taxing part of his get-up was his elf ears; they looked so realistic because he spent a lot of time getting them done. It would take 45 minutes or more to take them off, making his anxiety all too real. The actor joked with Fallon, saying he would have to show up at the hospital in costume.

I was terrified that I would go to the hospital [as an elf].

This nightmare perplexed him while on set because it seemed entirely plausible, like something that could happen. Showing up for the birth of your child with elf ears is not something most fathers want to do. But it could turn into a funny incident that he could recall every year.

What’s next for Sauron/Halbrand in season 2?

The Palm Beach star also discussed his exciting role for the upcoming season. Since the first season revealed in a shocking twist that Halbrand was actually The Dark Lord Sauron in disguise, fans have been salivating for his adventure.

It’s quite a dark, intense season. It is a bit different to season one.

The show is going to take a dark and gloomy tone, as per Vickers, and more about his character’s journey will be explored. Since the premise is quite different from the original source, LOTR fans are speculating and creating all sorts of theories.

Season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power is releasing on August 29, 2024, on Amazon Prime Video.
