When we talk about football GOATs, one name is clear of the others—if there are ‘many’. Tom Brady. And the former Patriots’ legend did not shy to make his way back into the Sunday Night Football. But this time (might be for the first time) he could not get the fans to like him in his new role.

It was Brady’s debut as a commentator for Fox’s coverage of the Cowboys vs Browns game in week 1. But it was not received well amongst his fans. One fan did not even put filters on as they wrote: “Tom Brady is the worst announcer I’ve ever heard.”

But why such a big chatter about him getting the hang of broadcasting? You might ask. See, the thing is. FOX replaced its number 1 Greg Olsen with Brady. And to do how Greg did it in 2023 was not the expectation. The expectations were to bring the Brady flair. He failed to deliver the bare minimum. And Greg? What do you think? He excelled even with team 2, calling plays during the Steelers vs Falcons game.

And that’s all it took for the fans to miss Greg. “I miss Greg Olsen. Tom Brady is boring me,” one fan wrote. While another fan went in a little deep with describing the ‘problem’ with Brady’s style of commentating. And that’s: “If this is the best Tom Brady can do, I need to hear the tapes from the trial runs he did this summer as they must have been hilariously bad… Brady is BRUTAL doing color commentary. Bring back Greg Olsen!”

Wish it stopped there. But it did not. X became a steakhouse where the roast of the day was Tom Brady’s debut as a commentator. One of the Chefs (fan) commented: “Tom Brady in the booth sounds like Greg Olsen if he took estrogen for a year and had Aspergers.”

Indeed, Tom sounded a little off. Maybe it was the nerves. And yes, even the GOATs get nervous because they are humans after all. It must’ve read ironic, but that’s just the truth. A fan commented, highlighting the exact sentiment, albeit with some bluntness: “This is an embarrassment. Tom Brady doesn’t know what to say. It’s so bad.”

And when you would hear how he opened his account as a commentator, you’d know it’s coming from a player who is starting to get into this new game.

Tom Brady’s the new face of FOX!

In 2022, Tom Brady inked a 10-year, $375 million deal with FOX Sports. That’s more than he made over 23 years on the field. Yet, the move from throwing touchdowns to breaking them down on TV hasn’t been smooth sailing. Fans are already calling for Greg Olsen’s return, but, let’s be real, Brady’s here to stay. After all, greatness takes practice, right?

When Brady opened his broadcast with, “We’re here, it’s been quite a journey,” you could feel the weight of seven Super Bowl rings and sky-high expectations. The pressure was palpable. Fans don’t just want him to be good; they want him to be as great behind the mic as he was under center. In his first segment, Brady focused on quarterbacks, discussing everything from Dak Prescott’s recent contract to Deshaun Watson’s potential comeback.

But here’s the real question: Can Brady reach the same legendary status in the booth as he did on the field? It’s too early to tell, but if his career is any indication, he’s not one to shy away from a challenge.
