The new leaked images from the set of HBO’s The Last of Us have seemingly confirmed that the series is going to explore an important storyline about Ellie in season 2.
The first edition of The Last of Us turned out to be massively successful for HBO. It not only garnered universal acclaim, it also nabbed several nominations throughout the awards season. Even though the show received praise for its storytelling and striking visuals, certain fans complained about the storylines featured in season 1. Additionally, they noted that certain elements of the game were cornered during the first season. With season 2 already in production, fans would want the makers to stay true to the source material and recent photos have shown that one of Ellie’s prominent storylines will be a part of the second edition.
The images obtained by Reddit user u/OwenChristopherNDA feature Bella Ramsey and Young Mazino talking to each other on a street. Ramsey plays the role of Ellie on the show, while Mazin has been cast as Jesse for the second season. If the TV adaptation remains faithful to the game’s storyline, this scene likely depicts a pivotal moment from the Seattle Day 3 section. In the game, Ellie is determined not to leave Seattle without Tommy, and Dina is equally adamant about not leaving without Ellie. Jesse, albeit reluctantly, agrees to join Ellie on her journey to the aquarium, where Abby is believed to be hiding. Their goal is to find Tommy and return to Jackson safely. This means HBO and its makers will stay true to Part II of the popular game.
Previous photos from the set have already revealed Ramsey’s Ellie meeting Dina, played by Isabel Merced. However, there have been no sightings or leaked images of Kaitlyn Dever, who is set to portray Abby in the TV adaptation of the series. So, it is clear that season two will only feature Ellie’s three days in Seattle. Meanwhile, Abby’s three days might be tackled in the third edition of the series. This might be a wise decision to cover both storylines separately because they both are intense and play a crucial role in how the narrative moves forward. This is what the game does as well. Players begin by playing through all three Seattle days as Ellie. Once that part ends, they replay the same days from Abby’s perspective. Although some might say that the makers could have tackled the storylines simultaneously, it could have made the story less impactful.
Fans would be happy to see an Ellie-centric narrative in season 2 of The Last of Us. However, it wouldn’t be easy for them to tackle Abby’s storyline in season 3. Nevertheless, the first look shared by HBO has made fans excited for what’s about to come in Season 2.
The first season of The Last of Us is available for streaming on MAX.
