Sofronio Vasquez – winner of The Voice, will return home to make amends after failing to get a seat in the Philippines. Is this real?

Trying out for The Voice in his native Philippines, Sofronio Vasquez was gutted to receive zero chair turns. Seeking redemption, the 32-year-old former dental student decided to give the U.S. version a shot. This time, all four big red chairs turned when Vasquez belted Mary J. Blige’s “I’m Goin’ Down.” He chose Michael Bublé as his coach, and the two of them rode it out all the way to an end in a season that included multiple Steals. When all was said and done, viewers crowned Vasquez the winner over fellow Team Bublé member Shye. Now, the season 26 champion has announced the first live concert since his victory.

Sofronio Vasquez Is Going Home

Dubbed the “Filipino Phenom,” Sofronio Vasquez carried the support of an entire community throughout his impressive run on The Voice. Both Filipino and Filipino-American people rallied around him and celebrated his victory. So it’s fitting that Vasquez will perform his first post-Voice concert in his home country.

In a Dec. 27 Facebook post, the singer announced he will take the stage Jan. 18, 2025, at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino in Cebu City, Philippines.

“PIT SENYOR!!! Kitakits mga silingan sa Sugbo,” Vasquez wrote on Facebook. “Get your tickets now and reach to people posted in the poster below.”

Vasquez Is ‘The Voice’s’ First Filipino Winner

Sofronio Vasquez made history as the first-ever person of Asian and Filipino descent to win the U.S. version of The Voice. He grew up in poverty on the Filipino island of Mindanao, finding joy in music alongside his father, whom he credits as his “first coach.”

Vasquez was pursuing a career in dentistry when his father died in 2018. The devastating loss inspired him to chase his dreams of becoming a professional musician.

Vasquez told Today that his family visited his father’s grave in the Philippines after he won The Voice. The grave has a passage from the Bible that perfectly sums up his experience.

“It says Timothy 4:7, ‘I have finished the race. I fought the fight, and I kept the faith,’” he said. “So I guess that’s his message (to) me, saying, ‘Congratulations. I told you, you just have to keep the faith.’”
