Former child stars Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber used to be a match made in heaven.

The pop prince, 30, and Disney princess, 32, sent fans wild with their passionate love story until things went south and things got ugly. Selena, who has just announced her engagement to Benny Blanco, 36, split up with Justin in 2012 after a year of dating.

A whole host of social media drama ensued, including fans calling out the Canadian’s new relationship with Hailey Bieber in 2016, with #teamJelena trending on Twitter.

However, despite the apparent animosity between the former couple, Selena was spotted with Justin having breakfast in October 2017, only days before news emerged of her break-up with The Weeknd. Straight after the split was revealed, she was seen with Justin again, even attending church. A source said that the Baby star was “texting her nonstop and hangs out with her whenever he can”.

They were then spotted riding bikes together in Los Angeles on November 2, 2017, looking fairly happy and sparking more rumours of a renewed union.

A day later, a source confirms to Us Weekly that Justin and Selena are a couple, saying, “Selena always had feelings for Justin. Her friends want her to be cautious because she has been in such a good place post-surgery.” TMZ also confirmed the romance was back, saying the pair are “clearly dating”.

On November 17, the couple are spotted kissing, confirming they are in indeed dating. Joining Justin at an ice hockey game, Selena is photographed leaning over the rail to peck the singer on the lips—in front of hundreds of people.

However, this was the couple’s last meet-up. Although Selena had only recently taken to Instagram to wish her man a happy birthday, news surfaced that the two were now on a break after they were spotted leaving a Hillsong church service separately. People reported the pair are “hitting pause” in order to “focus on their spirituality” with a source adding that, “They weren’t getting along and decided to take a break. It doesn’t seem like a big deal and they will probably be fine soon again.”

But they weren’t fine again. Justin reconnected with ex-girlfriend Hailey just three months after his split from Selena, with the new couple marrying in a New York courthouse in September that year. They are now parents to son, Jack Blues, while Selena, too, has moved on with her life.

Sending fans into a frenzy, the singer announced her engagement as she showed off her diamond sparkler in pictures she shared on Instagram today. Posing with Benny, who she has been dating since June 2023, she gushed: “Forever begins now”.
