AN NFL fan has made a bold prediction after sharing a clip of Minnesota Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy from the team’s practice.
The X user compared the NFL rookie to three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes after he completed a pass at the team’s practice.

In the clip, McCarthy can be seen under center then faking a handoff to the running back.
McCarthy rolls out to the right and connects with a wide receiver on the run for a huge gain as the fans in attendance cheer.
The X user captioned the post writing, “JJ McCarthy is the next Patrick Mahomes.”
“It is IMPOSSIBLE for teams to sack JJ with his speed and insane arm strength.
“JJ might already be a top 3 QB,” the user said, adding a fire emoji.
Fans rushed to the clip to share their thoughts on the user’s bold statement.
“That looked mahomey icl,” one fan wrote, adding a fire emoji.
“Love anointing guys at practice,” slammed a second.
“It’s practice you can’t even remotely breath on a QB without getting cut,” a third commented.
“Why stop at top 3 give him GOAT status,” joked a fourth.
“It’s training camp practice and he’s wearing a red no-hit jersey. Pump the breaks, turbo,” said a fifth.
McCarthy was selected by the Vikings with the 10th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
McCarthy is a proven winner leading Michigan over Washington 34-13 to win the College Football National Championship last season.
The former national champion played at Michigan for three years and appeared in 40 games.
In his college career, McCarthy completed 482 passes, threw for 6,226 passing yards, and threw 49 touchdowns.
McCarthy has a long way to go to reach Mahomes’ status as the star has already secured two MVPs.
Mahomes has also completed 2,386 passes, thrown for 28,424 yards, and passed for 219 touchdowns in his career up to this point.
The selection of McCarthy comes after former Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins decided to sign a four-year, $180 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons in free agency.
Although McCarthy was selected in this year’s draft by the Vikings it isn’t clear if he will begin the season under center for the team.
McCarthy must beat out signal-caller Sam Darnold, who signed with the team in the offseason.
Darnold signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Vikings in March.
The 2018 No. 3 overall pick spent his first three years in the NFL with the New York Jets before they traded him to the Carolina Panthers in 2021.
The following season, Darnold lost the starting quarterback job for the first time in his NFL tenure.
In 2023, the USC product signed a one-year deal with the 49ers to be a backup to Brock Purdy.
Darnold made 10 appearances for San Francisco, including one start.
The 26-year-old threw for 297 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception last season.
