Since taking the keys to the DC universe, James Gunn has been pretty transparent with fans online, which isn’t common in the space of studio heads. From debunking certain rumors to shedding light on future DC projects, Gunm hasn’t shied away from giving a glimpse into the upcoming DCU, which is set to kickstart with Creature Commandos.

But recently, while clarifying fans’ concerns about the upcoming animated show, which will set things in motion for the DCU, Gunn seems to have confirmed the recasting of Wonder Woman.

James Gunn Seemingly Confirms Wonder Woman Recasting

Since the cancellation of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3, things have been pretty uncertain when it comes to Gal Gadot‘s tenure as Diana Prince. Moreover, a Wonder Woman-centered project is yet to be announced in the DCU, as the planned HBO show Paradise Lost is set to take place prior to her birth. However, rumors emerged on 4chan, claiming the Amazonian will appear in Creature Commandos, which is scheduled to hit Max sometime later this year.

Addressing this rumor, when a fan asked him online, “It’s safe to assume she hasn’t been cast yet, correct?”, James Gunn replied, “Correct”.

Following his response, it’s reasonable to assume that we’ll be indeed getting a new Wonder Woman, which makes sense as it’s a fresh beginning for the DC universe. But considering Gadot was one of the few saving grace of the DCEU and was responsible for one of its best entries, it’s a shame we might never see her back as Diana.

With the original Trinity seemingly out, fans will hope the next actor in line will do justice to the role. More importantly, fans will hope the new set of heroes will be backed by good writing in the Gunn-led DCU, which was mostly absent in the DCEU.

Engaging with fans online to clear the air about certain rumors and subjects isn’t uncommon for the new DC head. But The Suicide Squad director doesn’t partake in every discussion online, and when asked about his reasoning behind not debunking rumors from major outlets, James Gunn responded “Oftentimes sometimes sources break things while we’re in talks”. Furthermore, the filmmaker stressed sometimes it’s not worth debunking, but on many occasions, “I don’t see stuff”.

He explained (via Threads):

Often times news sources break things while we’re in talks and the deal may not work out – sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes I don’t want to or it’s sensitive stuff. A lot of times it’s wrong and not worth dealing with. And a lot of times I don’t see stuff

While it’s disheartening that Gal Gadot might never get to don her Wonder Woman armor again, it’ll be interesting to see who will fill her shoes under Gunn’s regime.
