The actor’s sister Christi Dembrowski, director Jim Jarmusch, actor Justin Bartha and more attended the preview event
Johnny Depp opened the doors to his first-ever art exhibit in New York City.
The actor, 61, unveiled A Bunch of Stuff, an immersive and experiential exhibition, during a special preview event held Monday, Sept. 30, in Manhattan, surrounded by family, friends, fans and peers from the international artist community.
Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer attended the opening, hugging Depp as they posed for photos together. Depp’s sister Christi Dembrowski was also present, plus director Jim Jarmusch, actor Justin Bartha, photographer Bob Gruen, DJ Tiana Verhagen and more.
Depp wore a hat and sunglasses as he smoked inside the gallery space, smiling and laughing while greeting guests.
The exhibit features Depp’s art dating back to his early 20s, as well as the Oscar nominee’s personal artifacts and ephemera from his homes and art studios.
Last month, Depp said in a statement to PEOPLE, “Through the magic and madness of life, art has been my sanctuary. These pieces, born of different stages of my journey are a residue of a life lived. Creation is not always a comfortable process, but for me it’s a necessary one.”
The exhibit comes from BAUART, a creator of museums, exhibitions and experiences, in association with Pantheon Art and its partners TAIT. The venue is represented by the Kagency.
BAUART co-founder Guy Vesey said in a previous statement, “Johnny Depp is celebrated worldwide as an actor, director and musician. What is less well known is that art has played a deeply personal and highly important role in his life since childhood.”
“We believe A Bunch of Stuff will leave audiences inspired to create; to realize, as Depp exemplifies, that art can be more than just paint on canvas,” added Vesey. “That it can be healing, transformative and empowering for all ages, no matter your background or experience.”
A Bunch of Stuff opens to the public on Friday, Oct. 4, at the Starrett-Lehigh Building in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood. To learn more and find tickets, visit abunchofstuff.com.
