Williams was drafted with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and a curse has hung over No. 1 picks for decades.

Before Williams took the field on Sunday, a No. 1 overall pick quarterback hadn’t won their debut game since 2002.

That 22-year long record was broken after the Bears completed a comeback to defeat the Titans 24-17.

That win wasn’t really on Williams’ shoulders though, as he struggled mightily in his debut. He completed only 14 of his 29 passes for 93 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions.

Williams also ran the ball for 15 extra yards, but it was an underwhelming opening game for the rookie.

He shared that it was cool to win his opening game, but also acknowledged he needed to be much better.

“It was a frustrating game,” Williams said.

“But the most important thing is that it shows a bunch of the personality of this team, I would say — the fight, the resiliency that we had.

“We want to be the most efficient team out there, myself included.

“Didn’t perform the way that I wanted to. I missed a few passes that I normally don’t miss, all these other things.

“Obviously, it’s great to get this first win. We’re all excited. Went to the locker room, celebrated. I sat down, enjoyed the moment, just watching all the guys celebrate understanding that I need to be better, I will be better.”

NFL fans saw that Williams needed to be better as well and called him out on social media.

“When you get an A+ on the presentation but all you did was stand and nod,” one fan said.
