Is a flock of feathered fury really more valuable than Gosling’s comedic gold? Seems Hollywood’s priorities are as misplaced as a slingshot-launched bird! Get ready, execs, the real angry birds are here.
Hollywood Says “Meh” to The Nice Guys 2, Fans Declare War with Angry Birds

Remember that hilarious action-comedy, The Nice Guys, with Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe? Buckle up, buttercup, because a sequel is looking about as likely as a dignified sneeze.
Why the long face? Seems Ryan Gosling blames a rather unexpected culprit: the Angry Birds film. Yep, that movie is based on the mobile game about, well, irate poultry. Gosling spilled the beans to ComicBook.com, saying sequels often depend on opening weekend—and The Nice Guys opened against the feathery fury of the Angry Birds movie. “I love how companies just make the worst decisions,” a fan lamented online. Ouch.
The blow was real. While The Nice Guys clawed its way to a decent $62 million at the box office, Angry Birds soared to a cool $352 million globally. That box office beak-stab basically squashed any hope for a Nice Guys follow-up.
But here’s the twist: The Nice Guys found a second life on Netflix, amassing a passionate cult following. And fans couldn’t agree more. “One of the greatest movies I’ve ever seen, and I’m not capping. I laughed so much throughout that movie, I still watch it every year or so,” a fan commented, clamoring for more Jackson Healy (Crowe) and Holland March (Gosling) hijinks.
More fans channeled their inner raging bird with IG comments like, “Fricking Angry Birds??? I loved Nice Guys. Plot, style, costumes, everything was spot on! Soundtrack too!” and “Literally one of the greatest if not greatest buddy comedies of the decade!”
Director Shane Black even tried to work his magic on a TV show, but that, too, got flushed (network homogenization, Black says). So, is this the end of The Nice Guys road? Maybe. But hey, at least Gosling’s comedic chops are getting recognized thanks to the upcoming Barbie movie. Who knows, maybe a little bit of Gosling charm can reignite interest in this detective duo.
Here’s to hoping Hollywood hears the cries of the Nice Guys faithful. Because eight years on, as Shmistian perfectly said, “Who tf talks about angry birds?”
Angry Birds Take Flight on the Stock Market
Angry Birds movie 2016| Columbia Pictures
Those ‘Angry Birds’ are flying high— straight to the stock market! Rovio, the Finnish company behind the mega-popular mobile game, is going public. This isn’t just a game for them anymore. After a rough patch with falling revenue, Rovio diversified its business—think theme parks (Finland, China, Spain—wow!), kid-friendly books (in 12 languages!), and a blockbuster movie (yep, that 2016 film raked in $350 million globally).
This combo—strong game performance plus movie and merch success—turned things around. Their revenue nearly doubled in the first half of 2017, and they’re feeling confident enough to offer shares to the public (IPO time!). Get ready to see Rovio soaring on the Helsinki stock exchange; with 80 million monthly active gamers behind them, these birds are definitely not grounded!
