Despite the showrunner’s comments on the finale’s unpredictability, House of the Dragon season 2’s finale might’ve been already spoiled.

With House of the Dragon inching towards its season finale, it pretty much appears Team Black will turn out on top. Weighing in on this matter, showrunner Ryan Condal stressed that Rhaenrya’s victory feels somewhat inevitable. However, the showrunner warned fans about celebrating Rhaenrya’s win early as, considering the nature of Game of Thrones, nothing is ever certain.

But while it can’t be said for sure what the finale has in store for us, fans have a pretty good idea, thanks to a GoT episode, which premiered 11 years ago.

At the tail end of HOTD: Official Podcast, Ryan Condal expressed that while a win for Rhaenrya might seem inevitable, considering how unpredictable GoT is, one can’t be absolutely certain.

He said:

I think you have to say that victory for Rhaenrya now must seem somewhat inevitable, but it’s Game of Thrones and people do unexpected things.

While this has ensured some fans that the finale might subvert expectations, for many, the fate of Rhaenrya might already be ruined, following the potential spoiler in GoT.

With House of the Dragon season 2 set to conclude, fans are highly enthralled about what the next chapter has in store. While no release date is currently in place, showrunner Condal stressed getting the next one right would be a major challenge following the franchise’s template.

Considering GOo is known for starting with a bang and building towards another bang while arching out characters in between, keeping storylines fresh to avoid repetition is their biggest challenge. He said (via Games Radar):

And we’re trying to find satisfying arcs within the season structure. So, hopefully you start with a bang, and then you build to another bang through the series, but you’re really trying to arc out the characters, so that each season is a different experience for all of them.

And then you leave them off all in a place where you can pick up with them next year, and then take them in a new direction, because you don’t want to end up in that place where you’re doing the same thing again and again.

With the showrunner putting the franchise back on the map following the success of House of the Dragon seasons 1 and 2, fans will hope he continues to succeed with the upcoming installments.

House of the Dragon is available to stream on Max.
