It’s somehow been almost one year since the two-part The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 finished its run, and fans are growing antsy for the highly anticipated third season. But before season 3 has even had a chance to drop on our watch lists, we’re already getting some early updates on the not-yet-officially-renewed season 4. That’s, right season FOUR!

In an interview with Press Pass LA in June 2024, Neve Campbell seemed to drop some exclusive news about The Lincoln Lawyer season 4. The Scream star revealed that she has “now committed to doing the entire fourth season.” Campbell’s tease comes on the heels of the season 2 twist that found her character Maggie leaving Los Angeles and taking a new job in San Diego.

Before the second season premiere, Campbell’s role on The Lincoln Lawyer was reduced from a series regular role to a recurring role due to a potential series she was set to star in on ABC. While that series didn’t go through, Campbell still wasn’t set to return full time for season 3 due to the fact that Maggie isn’t in the Michael Connellly book that inspired the season, The Gods of Guilt. (Other scheduling factors could have contributed, too.)

Thankfully, even with the absence of Maggie in the source material, the powers that be found a way to fit a limited appearance into season 3 for Campbell, as she also revealed to Press Pass LA that she will appear in two episodes of the upcoming season. Watch the video above to hear what Campbell had to say about the future of The Lincoln Lawyer and her Mickey and Maggie tease!

Last season, it seemed as though things were re-heating up between sometimes friendly exes Mickey and Maggie, but their could-have-been reunion was quickly put on ice with Maggie’s abrupt relocation to San Diego. As Campbell hinted, there’s now a “separation” between the two, both emotionally and geographically, but they still have to coparent their daughter Hayley, after all.

“A separation has occurred, and that lives out in season 3,” Campbell shared with Press Pass LA. “And now that I’ve decided to come back to the show, there will be a lot more.” We sure hope there’s a lot more for Mickey and Maggie! Even with Campbell’s schedule soon filling up with Scream 7, she’s fully committed to season 4 once Netflix gives the (still potential) green light.

According to ScreenRant, Maggie plays a much bigger role in Connelly’s sixth Mickey Haller book The Law of Innocence, which could be season 4’s inspiration and would entail reworking the story to exclude Campbell if she didn’t return to the series. But since she’s coming back, the writers are free to go full steam ahead and complete the four-season plan they have had in the works from the beginning.

Obviously, the series could continue beyond season 4, and showrunner Ted Humphrey also hasn’t revealed which book a possible season 4 would adapt. Although after skipping book 3 and continuing with books 4 and 5, book 6 seems like the logical next step. We will likely see the vision take shape with season 3 released later this year, but it’s exciting to dream about season 4 and Maggie’s now-confirmed return.
