Lucas Bravo’s Gabriel has had one of the most intricate relationship timelines of any character in Emily in Paris, and things have only gotten more complicated after in season 4. Debuting in 2020, the Netflix hit series follows the eponymous marketing executive from Chicago (Lily Collins) who gets a once-in-a-lifetime chance to work for a firm in Paris. Popular for its rewatchability and romantic storylines, Emily in Paris has proven to be quite popular across its first three seasons.
Introduced in season 1, episode 1, “Emily in Paris,” Gabriel has represented the heart of Emily’s Paris experience both figuratively and literally. Much like the lead of Emily in Paris‘ cast of characters, Gabriel’s successful career has soared since season 1, but his romantic exploits have been notoriously hit-or-miss. Though many critics misunderstand Emily in Paris, it is the tumultuous relationships that help to make the show so enjoyable. The relationship drama surrounding Gabriel is just one small piece of Emily in Paris‘ much larger story.
Emily In Paris Season 1: Gabriel Is Dating Camille But Likes Emily (& They Sleep Together)
Emily thinks Gabriel is leaving Paris when they spend the night together
From the moment they meet in Emily in Paris, it’s clear that Gabriel and Emily have a spark between them. The pair start as neighbors in the same building and meet when Emily accidentally tries to enter his apartment. The pair soon begin to flirt, and Gabriel shows his interest in Emily by going above and beyond in helping her out of the many jams that she frequently finds herself in. Being a native French speaker, he assists Emily through many of her social faux pas, and it begins to be obvious that he is much more than just a friendly neighbor.
Things get complicated for Gabriel in Emily in Paris when, in season 1, episode 4, “A Kiss is Just a Kiss,” Emily kisses Gabriel without knowing that he has a girlfriend. Even worse, Gabriel’s girlfriend is Camille (Camille Razat), a new friend of Emily’s who catches the two kissing but doesn’t realize it is romantic. Gabriel and Emily then decide to take romance off the table and continue on as platonic friends. However, that arrangement doesn’t last long as Emily drunkenly kisses him again in season 1, episode 7, “French Ending.”
Gabriel’s romantic entanglement with Emily doesn’t put a strain on his relationship with Camille, but his reluctance to accept a loan from Camille’s parents drives a wedge between them that sends him toward Emily. However, Emily rebuffs him because she doesn’t want to hurt Camille. Gabriel eventually finds a restaurant he can afford in Normandy, and his relationship with Camille ends because of his impending move. In Emily in Paris season 1’s ending, Gabriel sleeps with Emily on his last night in Paris, but they agree that a relationship isn’t possible because of Camille’s feelings. However, Gabriel receives another job offer and stays in Paris.
Emily In Paris Season 2: Gabriel Gets Back With Camille (Though Emily Wants To Be With Him)
Emily starts dating Alfie but still carries a torch for Gabriel
After all the complicated twists and turns for Gabriel during Emily in Paris season 1, his romantic exploits during season 2 are somewhat more subdued but no less enthralling. Gabriel decides to stay in Paris and open a restaurant at the end of season 1, and that puts Emily in a difficult spot as she still harbors feelings for him despite being unwilling to act. Not wanting to hurt Camille, Emily begins pursuing a relationship with Emily in Paris fan-favorite character Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), much to the chagrin of Gabriel, who is more or less forced to watch.
Meanwhile, Camille begins growing increasingly suspicious of Gabriel and his choices, and she finally learns the truth about him and Emily when she discovers one of his pans in Emily’s kitchen in season 2, episode 3, “Bon Anniversaire.” Despite that confrontation, Emily and Camille smooth things over and make a pact to choose their friendship over dating Gabriel. Though she denies it through most of season 2, Emily chooses Gabriel after much soul-searching and is prepared to tell him how she feels until Camille reveals she has gotten back together with him in Emily in Paris season 2’s ending.
Emily In Paris Season 3: Gabriel Proposes To Camille, But She Leaves Him At The Altar
Gabriel also drops the bombshell that Camille is pregnant
After the revelation about her feelings regarding Gabriel in Emily in Paris season 2, Emily is somewhat left in the lurch as his relationship with Camille begins to pick up where it is left off in season 1. At the start of the season, Camille moves back in with Gabriel, and he continues to expand upon the early successes of his new restaurant. That busy schedule drives another wedge between them though, and Emily’s constant presence is also met with suspicion from Camille. Camille eventually decides to travel to Greece for a work opportunity, and Gabriel, Alfie, and Emily travel to Provence in season 3, episode 6, “Ex-en-Provence.”
Long before the shocking ending of Emily in Paris season 3, the trio’s trip to Provence hints that things aren’t right in Gabriel and Camille’s relationship. Emily and Gabriel go out to lunch together, and they are constantly complimented on being a beautiful couple. In season 3, episode 7, “How to Lose a Designer in 10 Days,” Gabriel drunkenly confides in Emily that he suspects that Camille is having an affair in Greece. Emily is unable to tell him what she knows about Camille and Sofia’s (Melia Kreiling) romantic relationship, but Gabriel and Camille make up upon her return, and she proposes to him.
Season 3, episode 10, “Charade” is an appropriate title for the shocking events that ruin what is supposed to be Camille and Gabriel’s special day. Emily learns that Gabriel’s restaurant will be receiving a Michelin star, which causes the elated chef to kiss her hand in excitement. Camille witnesses the kiss, and it is the last straw. Camille then reveals to the gathered wedding party her pact with Emily not to date Gabriel. This causes Alfie to break up with Emily, as Camille storms off. In a final shocking twist, Gabriel reveals that Camille is pregnant with his baby, which necessitated the hasty engagement.
Emily In Season 4: Emily & Gabriel Begin A Real Relationship
The Emily in Paris paramours still have a rocky road ahead of them
Emily in Paris season 4 is split into two parts, but the first five episodes are full of twists and terms regarding the love triangle between Gabriel, Emily, and Camille. Not only does Camille go missing after calling off the wedding in season 3, but Emily also reveals the truth about Camille and Sofia’s relationship. Emily still wants to give a relationship with Alfie another shot but much to his frustration, Emily ends up picking Gabriel of Alfie, allowing the pair to finally embark on a real romantic relationship.
Meanwhile, Camille and Sofia stay in Gabriel’s apartment as Gabriel and Emily struggle to find time alone. The living arrangements certainly complicate matters, especially in Emily’s eyes. Despite Gabriel agreeing to Emily’s requests surrounding boundaries, when Camille leaves, she only moves down the hall. Emily in Paris season 4 part 1’s ending leans further into the “throuple” chaos. However, it sets up more Emily in Paris drama with the reveal that Camille isn’t pregnant and is avoiding sharing the truth.
