Even now, the disbelief lingers as NFL veterans are still scratching their heads. And, it looks like Cameron Jordan is no different as he shared his thoughts on Jackson’s new rank.

On the Mina Kimes ESPN episode of 20th August, the DE was absolutely shocked on hearing that Lamar Jackson stood above Patrick Mahomes in the NFL Top 100 list, “He came above! I didn’t even watch, oh man. Mahomes, who has 3 Super Bowls, who has done it and you couldn’t name a receiver from their oh you couldn’t name like a receiver with positive image from their receiving Core last year, yeah there’s memes about his receiving core last year.” Well, Lamar was the MVP of 2023 with 307-of-457 passes for 3,678 yards in the regular season, averaging 8.0 yards per attempt, all career-high numbers. However, it looks like Cam wasn’t the only person to be shocked at Mahomes being at number 4.

“But Patrick Mahomes should be No. 1 player on the list,” per reporter Henry McKenna. Moreover, Jordan wasn’t wrong about memes on the Chiefs’ wideouts, as meme captions like ”Patrick Mahomes also gave his wide receivers lumps of coal” and ”Patrick Mahomes hooked his o-line up with new golf carts” flooded X in 2023. So, why did such memes come up?

Well, the Chiefs’ QB was having a hard time with his WRs last year as they dropped a lot of passes during the 2023 season. And that’s evidenced by ‘Deflected and picked off by the @Patriots defense Deflected and picked off by the @Patriots defense,’ per NFL’s X post. Moreover, rookie WR Rashee Rice and Kadarius Toney own the second and third-highest drop percentage per target in the 2023 season.

And that’s not all, as the signal caller’s 14-yard pass to wide receiver Rashee Rice got the Chiefs into the Lions’ territory. “I Think He’s Going to Be a Lot Better This Year,” said Patrick even after their marginal loss against the Lions. Rice had 79 catches for 938 yards last season and ended with a post-season record of 26 catches in the Playoffs. And Mahomes didn’t miss out on Xavier as he said, “That route wasn’t necessarily called for Xavier. It was kind of an alert versus that coverage, and it worked out perfectly,” with respect to Worthy’s standout play against the Lions.
