“We don’t serve the men around us.”
Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power‘s Nazanin Boniadi has celebrated the female characterisation in Prime Video’s imminent fantasy series.
Soon to be seen as Southlands apothecary owner Bronwyn, the actress – known to Homeland fans as Fara Sherazi – attended Comic-Con this week, where she told Digital Spy and other press about the agency given to female characters.
“What I love about the writers on this show is that they have given every woman on the show, every female character, such agency. We don’t serve the men around us, we have a storyline and our own right.”

Boniadi continued: “For Bronwyn, she is a healer. But she taps into her inner lioness and I as an activist, as a longtime human rights activist from my homeland, Iran… I tapped into what I believe women are doing for my homeland.
“And playing with character in sort of liberating and redeeming the Southlanders who back you know, in her ancestors’ days, chose.”
Other major parts for female performers in The Rings of Power include Queen Regent of Númenor, Míriel (that’s Arrow‘s Cynthia Addai-Robinson), Galadriel (Saint Maud breakout Morfydd Clark) and Nori Brandyfoot (True History of the Kelly Gang‘s Markella Kavenagh).

Previously, original Samwise Gamgee star Sean Astin shared a few words on Amazon’s LOTR vision.
“Maybe somebody will do something interesting, and if it stinks, don’t watch it. But I have every expectation that this Lord of the Rings adaptation is going to be amazing.
“It’s been a long time in the making, really talented people working on it, and it only helps people remember 20 years ago when we brought out our version of Lord of the Rings. So it’s good for everyone when stuff like that happens.”
Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power streams on Amazon Prime Video from Friday, September 2.
