Elliott Wilson doesn’t understand why Nicki Minaj seemingly continues to hold a grudge against him, despite him apologizing over their past spat.
In the latest episode of HipHopDX‘s The Bigger Picture, which airs on Saturday (August 10), the veteran Hip Hop journalist addresses Nicki’s recent shot at him and her suggestion that he has continued to post negative stuff about her online.
Speaking on Stationhead earlier this week, the Young Money rapper made a thinly-veiled reference to 53-year-old Wilson, saying: “If someone were the age of, say, 53… do you think they should be messy on the internet? And if they have to be messy on the internet in order to get their coin, don’t you feel bad that they didn’t get enough coin before they turned that age?”
She also implied that those posting negative content about her are being paid to do so and that they should “retire.”
Responding to Nicki’s comments, Wilson says: “I challenge the Barbz, and any little internet detective: where in the fuck have I dissed Nicki Minaj since December?”
The former XXL editor-in-chief was referencing the screenshot he posted last year of Nicki Minaj twerking on Kai Cenat‘s Twitch stream which he sarcastically captioned: “Hip Hop journalism,” a nod to his criticism of high-profile rappers for snubbing Hip Hop media in favor of outside platforms.
Wilson later deleted the post and apologized to both Minaj and Cenat — but not without facing the wrath of the “Super Bass” star.
YN, who interviewed Nicki for his CRWN series back in 2012, insists that was the last time he posted anything critical about her online.
“Why is she dissing me to her Barbz, her insane fanbase?” he continues. “She’s built in her mind that I’m on the internet or social media doing negative things towards her. First of all, she blocked me on Twitter so she doesn’t know what the fuck I’m doing on Twitter.”
After co-host DJ Hed interjects and points out that an artist of Nicki Minaj’s stature is most likely kept informed of any negative coverage of her, he replies: “But where are the receipts from the Barbz? I haven’t done anything to her! Why now, however many months later? This was in December; we’re in August now. So that’s, what, nine months later?”
Referencing his aforementioned post, he adds: “I took it down because I regretted doing it. But she’s saying I’m continually on the internet doing things to try to sabotage her career. That’s just playing to her Barbz. I’ve done nothing against her. There’s no action — other than that action. There’s no proof!”
One theory behind Nicki Minaj’s gripe, as Wilson explains, is that he has secretly been working with longtime friend JAY-Z and Roc Nation to “build Megan Thee Stallion into a rival of hers.”
Dismantling that argument, Wilson says: “If you go to my feed, I don’t even post Meg that much! I post probably Ice Spice more than I post Meg. But she’s got a problem with Ice Spice too.
“Then I’ve always said I love Cardi B, and you can’t love Cardi B and love Nicki — that’s always my position. I think Nicki’s the G.O.A.T. and for a long time I felt Cardi was the best currently at that time.”
“I get that part, but anything specifically negative towards Nicki from me has not happened since that one incident in December,” he adds. “So why randomly do I wake up yesterday and she’s doing her Stationhead secret society counsel meeting with her Barbz, speaking cryptically about things? She says, ’53 years old,’ which makes it clear she’s talking about me.”
Wilson, a 30-plus-year-veteran of Hip Hop media, also isn’t happy about his age being used against him by both Nicki and others: “Why is everybody on my dick about my age? Pause. I’m fifty-muthafucking-three. You should be thanking me that I’ve lived that long and I’m still the man I am and I’m still that n-gga.”
Check back tomorrow for the full Bigger Picture episode, which will be available to watch on DX’s YouTube channel.
