Westeros’ ruling dynasty has yet a lot to tell after everything Fire & Blood has unveiled.

With two seasons already and the third one confirmed to be in the works, House of the Dragon does have pretty good chance to plan its run for several years to come — but only in case there’s a major update from the original source coming in the next couple of years (which, as everyone knows by this point, is very unlikely to happen).

The show could surely follow Game of Thrones ’ suit since the latter’s creators had to come up with their own plot twists after being left with no other source to rely on. However, the prequel just can’t risk its reputation that much considering all the backlash Game of Thrones last season got upon its release in 2019.

So far, the show doesn’t seem to have much to worry about, as George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood is always within reach, but things might come to a dead end once the first chapter’s finale is around the corner.

As Martin himself has recently revealed in his online blog, he keeps doing his best to drop Fire & Blood’s second part and Game of Thrones’ sequel The Winds of Winter sooner (although we’ve been hearing the same thing for the past 10 years), also adding that the former’s second chapter will finally unveil more details about the nature of the relationship between the Targaryens and their dragons.

Considering that Fire & Blood drops the dynasty’s history at the point of Rhaenyra’s son Aegon III ascending the throne, the author has a lot of new storylines to come up with until his textbook-ish novel about House Targaryen finally reaches the beginning of Daenerys’ fight for power.

The second book is now set to cover around 150 years since Aegon III’s death and right up to Robert Baratheon’s power grab which eventually results in a huge crisis for the Targaryen dynasty.

The story thus has to dwell on the reign time of Daeron I, Baelor I, Viserys II, Aegon IV, Daeron II, Aerys I, Maekar I, Aegon V, Jaehaerys II, and Aerys II, aka the Mad King, who is defeated by Robert Baratheon and whose daughter Daenerys Targaryen will later embark on a long-standing battle for the throne in Game of Thrones.
