When Is ‘Jane The Virgin’ Leaving Netflix? Here’s The Last Day You’ll Be Able To Watch The Novela

Bad news, romance fans: Jane The Virgin is officially leaving Netflix.

The romcom became the ultimate comfort watch when it premiered on The CW in Oct. 2014 before later earning a new audience on Netflix, where it has been streaming since 2015.

The thought that Jane the Virgin could be leaving its longtime streaming home may come as a surprise to fans. But the streamer no longer has a deal with The CW, which means Netflix does not automatically get streaming rights for its shows.

Though it’s unfortunate news, it does make sense that Jane the Virgin will be leaving Netflix this year. Deadline reported that Netflix will continue streaming The CW shows “during the broadcast life of the series and for a number of years beyond that.” Other CW shows have also left the streamer after five years, so Jane the Virgin fans have had quite some time to enjoy the show.

Here is everything we know so far about when Jane the Virgin will be leaving Netflix.

What is Jane the Virgin about?

The critically acclaimed comedy stars Gina Rodriguez as Jane Villanueva, a religious young woman who has done everything she could to keep her life on track and avoid the fate of her mother, who had her as a teenager. At 23, she’s studying to become a teacher and is in a happy relationship with a man who respects her decision to save herself for marriage. But her life gets turned upside down when she accidentally gets inseminated and learns the father is none other than the handsome hotel tycoon who owns the place she works at.

The series stars Justin Baldoni, Andrea Navedo, Jaime Camil, and Brett Dier.

Rodriguez’s moving and quirky performance as Jane earned her a Golden Globe for Best Actress. The show was also honored at the 2015 Peabody Awards.

When is Jane the Virgin leaving Netflix?

According to the Netflix site, the last day to watch the series is Sept. 5.

All five seasons of the critically acclaimed show are streaming on Netflix now. There’s still enough time to catch up (or rewatch) the hit series.

It’s unclear if the show will be available to stream on other platforms now that Netflix will no longer be hosting the show.

However, it is available to purchase on Prime Video and Apple TV.
