The Apple TV+ adaptation has already changed parts of the original Time Bandits movie ending. While Kevin’s parents were coaled at the end of the movie, the series has it happen early on. This provides new motivation for Kevin, as he travels with his coaled parents in hopes that time travel will help him reverse their fate. In episodes 3 and 4, the Time Bandits characters face more comical danger, and Fianna continues her hunt for the time map the bandits are using to add to their riches.
Saffron Went Searching For Kevin & Their Parents In Time Bandits Episode 3
Saffron Went Through The Time Portland In Kevin’s Room
One of the changes the Time Bandits series made from the movie may seem minor, but episodes 3 and 4 prove it was bigger than expected. Kevin was an only child in the Time Bandits movie, but in the Apple TV+ show, he has a younger sister named Saffron. Like Kevin’s parents, Saffron doesn’t understand Kevin’s love for history and teases him for it relentlessly. Saffron and Kevin don’t get along, but as he notes, he’s partially responsible for her as his older brother.
Kevin assumes she’s safe back home when he leaves with the time bandits and their coaled parents. However, with her family gone, Saffron wanders into Kevin’s room and through the time portal in Time Bandits season 1, episode 3. Unfortunately, Saffron is traveling without a map and a group of time bandits, and while she’s managed so far, she could wind up in serious danger in future Time Bandits episodes.
The Time Bandits Were Saved From Being Burned To Death
Kevin Reminded The Knights They Had Free Will
While Saffron was searching for Kevin and their parents in Time Bandits season 1, episode 3, he and the bandits travel to medieval times. They came from the time of the dinosaurs, carrying a dinosaur skull with them. The villagers confuse it for a dragon head and declare them dragon slayers, putting them in a difficult situation with the sheriff. The villagers want Kevin and the time bandits to save them from the sheriff’s oppressive rule, but they only get as far as the dungeon, and the sheriff orders his knights to burn them to death.
While they are tied up to a post about to be burned, Kevin convinces the knights not to kill them. He reminds them they have free will and don’t have to take the sheriff’s orders if they don’t want to. Though the knights argue they’ll be tortured if they don’t follow his orders, Kevin makes them realize that they are the ones torturing each other, and they can put an end to it. This is another example of the truth being more powerful than any tricks they try to play in Time Bandits.
The Time Bandits Accidentally Brought Dinosaurs To Medieval Times
The Time Bandits Brought Dinosaur Eggs Through A Time Portal
Before Kevin convinced the knights to free them in Time Bandits season 1, episode 3, the group had a failed plan to pretend to be wizards. While it failed, Penelope, Bittelig, and Widgit were able to escape and time-traveled to ask the Huns for help defeating the sheriff and his knights. They return after Kevin successfully got the knights to let them go, but without the Huns. Instead, Bittelig brings back giant eggs to help the villagers with their famine.
Unfortunately, they were dinosaur eggs. When they cracked open, baby dinosaurs were let on the loose while Kevin and the bandits escaped through a portal. This isn’t the first time the bandits have messed with time and changed history, but this mistake could have bigger consequences. Time Bandits season 1 has 10 episodes to explore the effect of their actions, and the story could return to what happened in episode 3.
Saffron Accidentally Put A Bounty Out On Kevin In Japan
Saffron Doesn’t Have A Translator Cap In Time Bandits
When Saffron goes through the portal in Kevin’s room in Time Bandits season 1, episode 3, she starts traveling through time the same way Kevin and the bandits had. Through the portals, they left a path for her to follow them. Like them, she starts in Macau in 1810, where she meets Madame Chung. Unlike them, she doesn’t have a translator cap, so she can’t properly communicate with anyone who doesn’t speak modern English. This creates some funny scenes in Time Bandits, but it could become a problem, particularly for Kevin, in future episodes.
In Time Bandits season 1, episode 4, Saffron travels to Japan in 1200 CE with a picture she drew of Kevin to try and communicate with people. When she shows it to a Japanese female warrior, thanks to the language barrier, the woman assumes Kevin has wronged her. She shoots an arrow through his picture, pinning it on a tree, sending a message that he’s a target. Kevin’s already being targeted by Pure Evil and, by association with the time bandits, Supreme Being, and the misunderstanding could cause more trouble for him.
The Time Bandits Posed As A Gang During Prohibition In Time Bandits Episode 4
Bumpy Johnson Assumed Penelope Was Madame Queenie
Kevin and the bandits spend Time Bandits season 1, episode 4 in New York City in 1929 during the Harlem Renaissance. They had just escaped England in 700 CE and the monks who were after them when they landed through the portal with some stolen mead. They wound up in a warehouse where Bumpy Johnson had set up a meeting with Madame Queenie to pick up some alcohol to sell to a speakeasy.
They sell Bumpy and his gang the mead and create an operation that involves time traveling for more mead and making counterfeit money. They could have gotten in trouble for this illegal activity alone, but Bumpy’s mistaking Penelope for Madame Queenie put them on the radar of the famous gang. Madame Queenie’s gang members almost kills Kevin and the time bandits, but Madame Queenie stops them. In this scenario, the time bandit’s obliviousness works in their favor, as Madame Queenie realizes they weren’t trying to encroach on her territory.
The Time Portal In Time Bandits Is Unstable
Bittelig & Judy Accidentally Got Stuck In 700 CE England
The time portals in Time Bandits have proven to be dangerous and unpredictable, especially because Widgit still hasn’t completely figured out how to properly read the time map. It’s unclear just what happened when Widgit, Penelope, and Bittelig went off to find the Huns in Time Bandits season 1, episode 3. However, Penelope says they’re making progress with the time map and the portals and should be able to save Kevin’s parents. Widgit doesn’t agree, but she stops him from speaking out against her.
This comes back to bite them in Time Bandits season 1, episode 4 when the time portal between 700 CE England and 1929 New York City abruptly closes, trapping Bittelig and Judy. Fortunately, they are freed by the end of the episode, but as Widgit points out, the time portals are unstable. This could be because Saffron has been traveling through them or because of what Kevin and the time bandits’ frequent time travel is doing to the timeline. Whatever the cause, this will likely be a recurring problem in Time Bandits.
Fianna Let Saffron Go In Time Bandits Season 1 Episode 4
Fianna Realized Saffron Wasn’t Who She Was Looking For
Through Time Bandits season 1, episodes 3 and 4, Fianna was hunting whom she thought was Kevin. Fianna succeeded in coaling Kevin’s parents at the end of Time Bandits season 1, episode 2, but her job wasn’t finished. Pure Evil wouldn’t be satisfied until he had the time map, and to get the map, Fianna needed to get to Kevin. She took what she thought was a shirt of his to track his scent, but it was one of Saffron’s.
When Fianna finally catches Saffron in Time Bandits season 1, episode 4, she lets her go. This shows that Fianna has one mission in mind and isn’t concerned with hurting or killing people if she doesn’t think it will serve her mission. She might have been on the wrong track, but she saw the picture of Kevin. If she keeps following the time portal path Kevin and the bandits left behind, it’s only a matter of time before Fianna catches Kevin in Time Bandits.
Supreme Being Is Making Earth 2 In Time Bandits
Supreme Being Is Going To Reset The Earth
Time Bandits season 1, episode 2 ended with Supreme Being showing his top-secret grand plan to two of his most trusted workers. Time Bandits season 1, episode 4 ended similarly, with Supreme Being elaborating on the plan and revealing what would happen if he enacted it. Supreme Being is creating “Earth 2,” but it isn’t how it sounds. Instead of creating another Earth, he is rebooting the one that already exists, essentially starting over.
This would get rid of all of Earth’s humans and history, which helps explain Cassandra’s comment in Time Bandits season 1, episode 1 about Kevin saving the universe. It also complicates Supreme Being’s character. The time bandits see him as a villain because they didn’t like working for him, but Supreme Being’s plan seems more evil than good. This is another change from the Time Bandits movie that adds another interesting dimension to the Apple TV+ series.
