One of the main drawbacks of House of the Dragon is that the show focuses mostly on the Targaryens. On the one hand, this allows the creators to properly reveal the members of the royal family. On the other hand, it deprives the series of one of the main advantages of Game of Thrones — scale, a wealth of storylines and interesting locations.
In Game of Thrones, viewers could choose their favorites from a large number of candidates. Some were more interested in following Jon Snow, others Tywin Lannister. In House of the Dragon, there is simply no such possibility. There are not many characters, and they only interact with each other in a couple of locations.

What Is The Last Kingdom About?
The British historical drama series centers on the confrontation between the Vikings and the Anglo-Saxons in a war for the fate of medieval England.
The show’s protagonist is Uhtred, a Saxon by birth and Viking by upbringing who fights on the side of King Alfred the Great, the famous Anglo-Saxon conqueror.
The Last Kingdom Turned Out to Be Better Than Vikings
The Last Kingdom ended in 2022 after five seasons and did so quietly. All because it was overshadowed for a long time by the much more successful and popular Vikings.
Now that both shows are finished, we can compare them and suddenly discover that the British project is not only equal to the Canadian hit, but surpasses it in many ways. This is a much more dynamic story, which, thanks to the literary source by Bernard Cornwell, looks like a brilliantly written historical epic.
The Last Kingdom Received a Perfect Finale
And it only seems that the series ended quietly — in fact, viewers were completely satisfied with the ending, and this is a rarity in our time. Moreover, the finale was so spectacular that fans are now calling The Last Kingdom one of the best historical series of our time.
The plot twists and turns never lost their intensity throughout the five seasons — kings and earls changed, Uhtred lost friends, wives and children. That’s why viewers who enjoy historical battles, courtly intrigue, the clang of blades and rivers of blood should definitely check out The Last Kingdom.
