Tehran-born British actor and activist Nazanin Boniadi departs from the hit Prime Video fantasy-adventure show Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power ahead of season 2. The actor recently took to her Instagram to share that she will not return to reprise her character in the second season of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit prequel series.

Boniadi who has been a devout activist, revealed the real reason behind her absence from the show stating that her decision to step down from the hit series is not related to her subsequent prioritization of her advocacy of the political movement #WomanLifeFreedom. However, fans are convinced that the reason for the actor leaving the show was quite vague.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power made a huge wave among fans chronicling the Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. Set thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings, the show has been an astounding hit. The series was renewed for the second season, but Nazanin Boniadi, who played Bronwyn— the mother of Theo and worked as Tirharad’s healer— will not return.

Recently, the actor took to her Instagram to reveal the reason behind her departure from the show.

I made the choice not to return for season two of ‘Rings of Power.’ This was unrelated to my subsequent decision to prioritize my advocacy and to advocate for the people in my homeland who have been risking everything for freedom.

The actor went on to add,

Throughout my career, the values I have held most dear are honesty, empathy, and integrity. My character Bronwyn was committed to these same ideals in striving for a fairer world, which is why I connected so deeply with her.

The 44-year-old Hotel Mumbai and Homeland star further promised to share her next project, “I look forward to sharing my latest projects with you soon.” As per Deadline, no actor has been recast for Boniadi’s role in the show as of now.

Boniadi was not featured in the trailer for the second season, which was the first glimpse of the actor not returning to the show. Following her statement, fans jumped right into the conversation on X to share their thought on the actor’s vague reason.

The actor previously declared that she had stepped away from acting in 2022. After wrapping her indie film A Mosquito in the Ear, the actor discussed her absence from the screen.

I stepped away from acting in September 2022, to focus solely on the #WomanLifeFreedom uprising in Iran and to advocate for the people of my homeland who have been risking everything for freedom.

With a bit of a hint about A Mosquito in the Ear, she went on to add,

Despite my passion for acting, I knew it would take a very special project to convince me to once again split my time between my day job and my calling as an activist. ‘A Mosquito in the Ear’ is that project — an adaptation of the Italian graphic novel Una Zanzara nell’Orecchio from Andrea Ferraris, and the feature directorial debut from the extremely talented BAFTA Newcomer Director, Nicola Rinciari.

Boniadi’s departure would not make a serious dent in the narrative, but the actor shined in the first season of the show. Perhaps Boniadi will focus more on activism and personal life, but it has been ensured that fans will not see her in the second season, which will land on Prime Video from August 29 onwards.

Stream the first season of Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power on Prime Video.
