James McAvoy debuted in the role of Charles Xavier / Professor X in 2011’s X-Men: First Class. He later reprised the role for three more installments, including X-Men: Days of Future Past, which remains one of the more popular entries in the franchise.

While promoting the latter film, McAvoy spoke with MTV, where he was asked about the X-Men facing off against the Avengers, led by Robert Downey Jr‘s Iron Man. You can check the actor’s full comments below:

As evidenced by the clip, McAvoy had little doubt about the X-Men beating the Avengers, primarily because of the sheer difference in numbers. He said:

One of them is like half-man, half-robot. You just turn off the power and he’s done.

McAvoy made the above statement, revealing his plan to take out Iron Man. The actor went on the explain how Professor X’s mind-control powers would be nearly impossible for the Avengers to deal with.

I could be like take your clothes off and they’d all be taking their clothes off.

McAvoy jokingly added the above comment, while also stating that the original six Avengers were no match to the powers of the X-Men.

While the ranks of the Avengers have bolstered in the past few years, when McAvoy gave this statement, only the core six members of the group had been properly introduced in the MCU. As a result, McAvoy’s comments about the X-Men overpowering this group hold some merit.
