The show’s ability to captivate audiences has also helped its cast members in gaining global fame, including Iwan Rheon, who portrayed Ramsay Bolton. However, it didn’t do all good to him as his senile role created problems in his acting career.

Iwan Rheon Revealed Starring in Game of Thrones Created Hindrance in His Career

Iwan Rheon is best known for his portrayal of the sinister character, Ramsay Bolton in the Game of Thrones series. He is surely one of the most hated characters in the franchise, which is also the reason why his role has created quite trouble in his acting career.

Given how much the audience hates the character, it can be said that Rheon has done a commendable job in bringing the character to life on-screen. With the success of the series, his role also catapulted him to fame, which eventually brought new doors for his work.

In an interview with Radio Times, he explained,

There’s no other way of looking at it. Because of the magnitude of the show, it did loads for my career.”

However, the character he portrayed was quite dark which he perfectly managed to portray on-screen. Due to that, he received similar offers from the industry, which somehow limited his acting portfolio.

He continued,

“But it brought a lot of barriers as well. All of a sudden you’re just getting offered lots of parts where they want you to do the same thing.”

Typecasting is surely one of the things that can hinder any actor’s real potential and limit their projects. He knew that these things would eventually affect him as he shared,

“I was like: ‘Can I play a nice guy, please?’”

Playing the complex character of Ramsay Bolton in Game of Thrones was never easy, and he sometimes went off-limits to create a little enjoyment for himself. However, how would he have managed to get into such a complex character that garnered fans’ hate to the best? The answer is quite simple!

Iwan Rheon Got Candid About Portraying Ramsay Bolton in Game of Thrones

In a 2016 interview with GQ, the Misfits actor reflected on his time portraying the psychopathic character who committed disturbing crimes. Given that actors often find it difficult to get into a sinister character and shake it off with difficulty, Rheon’s Bolton journey could have gone through the same path. But the actor said otherwise.

“It’s all right, you, know? I try not to bring my work home with me. The thing about Ramsay is that because he’s actually happy, it’s weirdly easier to play than characters that are introverted, carrying all their darkness inside. That makes it more tiring.”

Portraying Bolton was comparatively easy for him as he revealed that the character never kept his feelings hidden.

“You kind of let everything out with Ramsay. But there are the scenes you sort of dread, obviously—these horrific things he does. But it’s okay. I’m quite good at detaching.”

Detaching such a menacing character was an ultimate need for him, who fortunately overcame that and landed a variety of different roles after ending his run in the HBO series. From Inhumans to the Misfits series, he has added numerous interesting projects to his portfolio, which is quite different from his Ramsay Bolton persona.

The Game of Thrones is available on HBO Max.
