Freya Allen is defending her new co-star for The Witcher, urging fans to give Liam Hemsworth a fair chance after Henry Cavill’s exit.
The Witcher will continue on for another two seasons following the exit of Henry Cavill as Geralt. The role will now be played by Liam Hemsworth moving forward.
After it was announced that Hemsworth would play Geralt, the actor had faced some criticism on social media from fans unhappy about Cavill’s departure. In a new interview with Collider, series star Freya Allen addressed Hemsworth stepping in as Geralt for Season 4. While acknowledging the difficult position Hemsworth is in with such big boots to fill, Allen said she’s “excited” to see what the actor brings to the role, and she’s hoping that fans upset about the recasting will come around to giving him a fair chance.
“I don’t want to speak for him, but from what I’ve understood, I feel like he’s really wanting to try and bring the heart,” she said. “He’s been training. I feel sorry for him, honestly, because, number one, that fan base can be very attack-y, and it’s not an ideal situation to be in taking up someone else’s role. But I’m really excited to see what he does. And he’s such a lovely guy. I just hope that people give him the time of day, you know?”
Allan also suggested she wouldn’t be sharing the screen too much with Hemsworth personally, remarking on how their characters are embarking on their own journeys in the upcoming season.
“Not really, because our characters, all the storylines are going their separate ways this season. So it’s very much my own journey,” she said. “Obviously, Geralt’s always going to have a massive weight on my character, but it’s very much her. She’s got a lot going on this season. She goes to some very dark places within herself, and also just discoveries, and coming into being a woman, basically. So yeah, she’s got her own separate thing. There isn’t much of an interaction there.”
Liam Hemsworth Will Have Two Seasons as Geralt
Hemsworth will have two seasons to portray the role of Geralt. Ahead of Season 4, Netflix renewed The Witcher for a fifth and final season. He will also not be the only new actor coming into the franchise with a role in the fourth season of the show. Veteran actor Laurence Fishburne was recently cast to play the character Regis, with other newcomers including Danny Woodburn, Sharlto Copley, and James Purefoy.
The first three seasons of The Witcher are streaming on Netflix.
