Buckle up! ‘3 Body Problem’ creators have a promising update for season 2.
Adapted from Cixin Liu’s trilogy, the highly anticipated sci-fi series, 3 Body Problem, by D.B. Weiss, David Benioff, and Alexander Woo became a popular choice on Netflix, right after its release. However, garnering a variety of opinions, the show received a bit of criticism from fans who found the first season to be quite underwhelming.
Therefore, addressing criticisms, as the show awaits its second season, the creators sit for Deadline’s Contenders TV event, where they discuss the adaptation. Noting down the creative problems that the show possesses, D.B. Weiss, David Benioff, and Alexander Woo promised an even better storyline for the second season.
3 Body Problem Showrunners Promised a Wild Ride for Season 2
D.B. Weiss, David Benioff, and Alexander Woo did it again when they turned Cixin Liu’s unadaptable trilogy into the hit Netflix series 3 Body Problem. Making an audacious adaptation of the book’s ideas about cultural memory, while combining theoretical questions with heartfelt emotions, the creators mesmerized the audiences with their epic sci-fi series. But certainly, they couldn’t win over 100% of their viewers.
Despite being one of the hit shows of 2024 on the streamer, 3 Body Problem faced criticisms from a few fans for being too slow-paced. A subset of fans found the first season of the sci-fi series quite underwhelming and even claimed to be disappointed by the slow burn. Therefore, addressing fans’ disappointment in the show, the creators offered positive updates about the second season.
Joining Deadline’s Contenders TV event, D.B. Weiss, David Benioff, and Alexander Woo initially began by addressing the issues they had with the first season. Throwing light upon that, the showrunners then explained why continuing the show possesses even more creative problems. However, later on, the creators promised to take the audiences on a wild and thrilling ride with their second season.
The Show Creators Address the Beauty of Their Netflix Series
Expressing their commitment to delivering a thrilling and engaging storyline that will live up to fans’ expectations, the creators hinted at solving the slow burn issue. With lots of choices to be made and a myriad of things to figure out, D.B. Weiss, David Benioff, and Alexander Woo subtly revealed what fans can expect from the upcoming season.
“This kind of eases you into the world of the story but the story gets really wild in the best possible way. With something that’s that wild, there are a lot of choices to be made and a lot of things to be figured out. We’ve been putting our heads together to figuring them out recently, especially the past couple months.” Weiss said.
Having been in preparation for months, the showrunners noted that they are taking care of every minute detail, so as to exceed people’s expectations with the new season. Meanwhile, they spoke about the exciting thing that attracted them towards the project in the first place. Delving into the beauty of the story, the trio confessed that the show had to find different ways to explain the scientific elements that Liu employed in the books.
D.B. Weiss, David Benioff, and Alexander Woo’s 3 Body Problem (2024)
“You don’t want people to be pushing pause and hitting Wikipedia every five minutes. You could do the version of that that makes people do that but it pulls people out of it. In the book, he’s explaining all this stuff to you anyway in writing. It was a challenge that was ultimately what drew us to the project to begin with.” Weiss shared.
Therefore, while the first season of 3 Body Problem solely focused on setting up intricate world-building and character development, the creators promised that season 2 would dive deeper into the mysteries of the plot. Thus, fans who were disappointed by the slow burn of the first season can now expect stunning visuals, and renewed promise of excitement with season 2, that will keep them on the edge of their seats.
3 Body Problem is available on Netflix.
