The Boys: So much blood, so little continuity? Think again! We’ve got exploding heads, laser eyes, and… wait, did Ryan the super-powered kid just switch actors? Shhh, don’t tell Homelander, but The Boys pulled off a sneaky recast, and nobody blinked.

With showrunner Eric Kripke breaking it down, buckle up for a season where the only drama is on screen, not behind the scenes. But hey, with all the gore and super-powered mayhem, who’s keeping track, right?

Big Reveal: The Boys’ Ryan Butcher Was Recast and We Missed It!

Cameron Crovetti regular in The Boys season 4

Guess what? The Ryan Butcher you’ve been watching in The Boys isn’t the same kid you met in Season 1. Yeah, turns out Cameron Crovetti, who we all know as Homelander’s moody son, wasn’t the original Ryan; “The actor for Ryan got a recast!” That role first belonged to Parker Corno, who had a brief moment in the spotlight with his blonde hair and bright blue eyes.

Recasting happens all the time in Hollywood. Just look at Riverdale’s Reggie Mantle, where Charles Melton stepped in for Ross Butler. But with Ryan, fans were totally in the dark until Twitter spilled the beans. One shocked fan even exclaimed, “Dude, he was never in the show.” Another joked, “I could swear on my mama I saw the same child all throughout the season.”

Showrunner Eric Kripke shed some light on the change, saying, “Casting kids is obviously super, super hard. Cameron was just so good,” and added, “He just kept crushing it and could break your heart.” Let’s be real, it’s easy to miss a switcheroo when the character was just a blink-and-you-miss-him cameo in Season 1, simply listed as an “8-year-old boy.”

The Mandela Effect strikes again! The series’ faithful are now scratching their heads, totally convinced Crovetti was the original Ryan. But guys, it’s not. Maybe it’s all the crazy twists or just the sheer chaos of The Boys, but this recast totally flew under the radar. Such a big change went unnoticed—pretty wild, no?

So, the next time you’re in front of the TV watching The Boys, do keep an eye on Ryan. You might catch a completely different face staring back at you! But again, why did the recast happen?

Why Was Ryan Butcher Recast?

Here’s the scoop: Parker Corno, the original Ryan Butcher in The Boys, didn’t stick around long. Why? Well, Corno’s acting resume was a bit thin, with just a couple of credits, including ‘Dutch Kid #1’ on Impulse and ‘Young David Arnold’ in BurdenThe Boys was his first major gig. And with Ryan Butcher taking on more screen time and complexity in later seasons, the showrunners needed someone with serious acting chops (via Slash Film).

Cameron Crovetti, on the other hand, came in with a much heftier portfolio. You might recognize him from HBO’s Big Little Lies, where he and his brother played the troubled twins Josh and Max Wright. They even took on the creepy roles of Elias and Lukas in the American horror flick Goodnight Mommy. Crovetti’s comfort with dark, intense roles made him a natural fit for The Boys, even if he looks more like Becca (Shantel VanSanten) than Homelander (Antony Starr).

Ryan Butcher’s character isn’t just a regular kid; he’s grappling with discovering his superpowers, learning his dad is basically the world’s scariest superhero, and, oh yeah, accidentally killing his mom with his heat vision while trying to protect her. Heavy stuff, right? These scenes demand an actor who can deliver high emotional intensity, and Crovetti was the perfect pick.
