Oshmir shippers, consider yourselves warned! Leslye Headland may have dashed your hopes in a new interview with IndieWire, in which she revealed that a tragic ending awaits the pair.

Episode 8 of The Acolyte concluded on a high note for Osha and Qimir fans, as the duo was shown ready to conquer the dark side together. In the finale, Osha and Qimir, also known as The Stranger, are seen holding hands, but actor Manny Jacinto says another version was filmed where the two kissed. Jacinto has been the loudest supporter of the couple, something that hasn’t gone unnoticed by their fans and has given them a lot to hope for.

While fans of the couple are on cloud 9, series creator Leslye Headland has issued a not-so-subtle warning that the pair is doomed. Speaking to IndieWire about the finale, which included an appearance by Darth Plagueis the Wise, Headland reveals her thoughts on Qimir and Osha’s dark future:

“Even though [Osha and The Stranger] are standing there, sort of looking out at the sunset, ready to conquer the world, the tragedy is we know they don’t. We know there can only be two. We know Plagueis is there. We know that these two are doomed in some way. So, to me, it’s a bittersweet tragedy, this foreboding ending.”

Of course, with Plagueis keeping an eye on the pair, it’s obvious that their future is doomed. Plagueis’ appearance is ominous and indicates that he has nefarious plans, and they’re unlikely to include both Osha and Qimir. One of them will likely face a fate worse than death, and the other is doomed because, as Yoda once said, “If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will.”

Leslye Headland connects with fans invested in Osha and The Stranger’s relationship and understands that some might be unfamiliar with the ‘Rule of Two.’ For these fans, the ending of episode 8 probably seems hopeful:

“I know about the Sith lineage and all these other things, whereas I think a different subset of the audience can be like, ‘They’re married!’”

In light of Headland’s stark warning, while it’s better not to pin too many hopes on a happy ending for Oshmir, there’s no harm in continuing to support your favorite couple. Who knows, maybe the love and support from fans will convince Leslye Headland to give Oshmir a happily ever after!
