Sydney Sweeney and the cast of ‘Anyone But You’ performed an end-credits musical number.
Sydney Sweeney’s sleeper hit movie Anyone But You unexpectedly took over the theaters and is now making waves in the international arena. The fame of the movie has been alluded to as the renaissance of romantic comedy films.
Will Gluck’s Anyone But You (2023)
Anyone But You is loosely based on William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell. The film proved yet again that a story does not need to be complicated or oversaturated with special effects to make a profit.
Anyone But You Director Talks About The Film’s Musical Number
In his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, filmmaker Will Gluck discussed his approach in helming Sydney Sweeney’s Anyone But You. He returned to the genre that propelled his career in the mid-2010s and he wanted his latest project to make a lasting impression.
“I really did feel a huge obligation to maybe make the last rom-com in the history of cinema and theatricality. I really wanted this to feel big and epic and musical and funny and sexy and edgy and adult in order to get people to experience it in the theater with their friends and their dates.”
Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney in Anyone But You
Over the past couple of years, romantic comedy films have taken the backseat as superhero and science fiction movies take the lead. With the onslaught of content specializing in these genres, fans have clearly gotten tired of them and wanted something light and easy. Gluck promised:
“I sound like a pitchman, but I guarantee that when you walk out of this movie, you will have had a good, fun experience, which rom-coms always deliver.”
One of the most interesting features of the movie was the end-credits scene where the cast of Anyone But You sings to Natasha Bedingfield’s Unwritten. The director revealed he used this song because everyone knows the lyrics.
“When I started playing [“Unwritten”] and the other [potential] song for people, I very quickly realized that everyone knows [“Unwritten”]. No matter how snarky or how much of a curmudgeon someone might be, you can’t not love that song. And we knew we were right when we started playing it out loud in the bar scene with 300 extras. They all knew the song, and I was like, ‘Oh sh*t, everyone knows this song.’ ”
And so he incorporated the song as the musical number at the end of the movie. Surely, it had an effect on the audience as they left the theater room with Unwritten still stuck in their heads.
Fans Are Conflicted With Anyone But You’s End-Credits Scene
