Shogun Episode 10 Trailer Teases Toranaga’s War After Tragic Osaka Attack

Shogun season 1 heads toward a dramatic finale, as Lord Toranaga’s war in the wake of the tragic Osaka attack is teased in the trailer for episode 10.

Lord Toranga’s war is coming in the aftermath of last week’s tragic Osaka attack, in the dramatic Shogun episode 10 trailer. Episode 9 saw Lady Mariko playing her part in Toranaga’s plans, and at last meeting the fate she had long wished for. The stage is now set for a final showdown between Toranaga and Ishido, with all-out war as the seemingly inevitable outcome.

It’s yet to be seen if Toranaga can bring an end to the conflict with Ishido and the Council while avoiding further bloodshed, but the new Shogun episode 10 trailer from FX seems to promise that a bloody fate likely awaits at least some of Shogun‘s characters, as Toranaga’s plans reach their endgame. Check out the clip below:

The clip sees Ishido declaring that war is “inevitable,” and also sees Blackthorne, who indeed survived the events of episode 9, raising his voice in defiance of Toranaga, whose plans last week led to a tragic fate for Mariko.

Why War Between Toranaga And Ishido May Not Be Inevitable

A custom image of Lord Toranaga and Ishido in Shogun episode 6 Ishido may think that war is the only answer after the events of Shogun episode 9, climaxing with the attack on Mariko, Blackthorne and Toranaga’s wives by shinobi assassins. Toranaga does not seem to think that war is inevitable, however, as he sent Mariko to Osaka to manipulate the situation there in such a way as to expose Ishido to the rest of the nobles, and force them to move against him and the Council of Regents.

A wild card in the coming Shogun finale is Ochiba, who holds immense power in her role as mother of the Heir, and could help bring about a peaceful resolution to the situation, one that would see Toranaga becoming shogun, and unifying Japan behind him. It’s yet to be seen what role Blackthorne will play in the finale, but his anger in the wake of episode 9’s events is made clear in the trailer, and it’s far from certain that he will align behind Toranaga as his former lord’s plans bear fruit.
