Alys Rivers is slowly cementing herself into being a mysterious main character in House of the Dragon, but if the show follows the books then she could be about to get a whole lot more important. There’s already some doubt surrounding whether she’s even a real person or if she’s actually just a spirit or ghost.
There are going to be some major spoilers for the book and potentially show as well so consider those your warning to not read any further if you don’t want anything spoiled. As for those of you like me who are just nosy and want to find out the juicy information on who Alys Rivers ends up having a baby with in the House of the Dragon books, keep on reading.
In the House of the Dragon book, Aemond eventually retakes Harrenhal from Daemon and kills all the staff inside except Alys. He instead decides to keep her as his mistress, although over time he starts becoming “besotted” with her, and they soon start a sexual relationship. After Aemond leaves Harrenhal to burn the Riverlands, Alys is left alone and during that time the castle is invaded and captured by Lady Frey.
Lady Frey finds out that Alys is pregnant with Aemond’s baby, yes really, and Alys manages to escape Harrenhal. She goes to find Aemond and helps him track down Daemon using her strange vision powers. Daemon and Aemond’s duel takes place above the God’s Eye, the largest lake in Westeros and sadly both of them and their dragons die during the fight.
Alys watches the whole thing happen and once she returns to Harrenhal she is accused of being a witch queen, an extreme but probably fair statement. She then announces that she is pregnant with Aemond’s child, who is a boy, and claims he is actually the true heir to the Iron Throne. Sadly we never find out what happens to her son in the books, but if the show introduces him we might be able to get some more information that way. Either way the fact she gets pregnant with Aemond’s baby is absolutely bananas.
