Morfydd Clark as Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings The Rings of Power season 2
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 gets a new trailer, teasing what’s next for the Prime Video fantasy series. Created by Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne, the hit Lord of the Rings show premiered on the streamer in 2022, chronicling the rise of evil during the Second Age of Middle-earth. Now, The Rings of Power season 2 is set to continue the journeys of characters like Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Elrond (Robert Aramayo), among others, as Sauron’s (Charlie Vickers) power grows.

Prime Video now releases a new trailer for The Rings of Power season 2, teasing Sauron’s growing power and an emotional rematch with Galadriel. Check it out below:

The trailer teases that the forging of the titular Rings will be a major part of season 2, and that Sauron’s expanding influence will lead to some major battles. In addition to these epic set pieces, however, the show will also be doubling down on emotion and the connection between Galadriel and Sauron.

Galadriel & Sauron’s Dynamic Will Be Crucial To The Rings Of Power Season 2

While The Rings of Power season 1’s reviews weren’t as glowing as those for Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, one interesting choice that the show has made (and is making) is focusing on a very personal struggle between Galadriel and Sauron. Season 1 hides Sauron’s identity and only reveals that it was Halbrand all along in the finale, meaning audiences got to know a more human version of the villain across eight episodes. This season 1 setup could make for an even more moving season 2.

In The Lord of the Rings, Sauron is a looming force of evil, but there is no history between him and Frodo (Elijah Wood). The backstory that Sauron and Galadriel now share in the Prime Video series, however, means there’s a deeper emotional level to their conflict. This will allow The Rings of Power season 2 to explore interesting ideas related to how tempted Galadriel is by Sauron’s promise of power and whether their bonding over the course of season 1 makes her more reluctant to kill him.

In The Rings of Power season 2, Sauron will be taking the ” fair ” form of Annatar , an Elf, in order to work with Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) to forge the remaining Rings.

It’s already been revealed that Galadriel will come into possession of Nenya, her Ring, in The Rings of Power season 2, and the dark pull of power could end up being an important part of her arc in the show’s sophomore outing. As seen in The Lord of the Rings, after all, during a quiet scene with Frodo, the Elf does have a dark side and has the potential to be corrupted. It remains to be seen how Galadriel and Sauron’s story will continue to evolve in the show, but their bond will evidently be crucial moving forward.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 premieres on Prime Video on August 29.
