Despite the second half season 7 still being months away from broadcast, the cast and crew are already deep into the filming for the eighth and final season
Outlander star Caitriona Balfe has admitted that a lot of tears were shed when filming of the final season began. The historical drama is coming to an end after an incredible ten years with its eighth and final season.
But in a recent interview, Caitriona said the whole cast and crew, including Glaswegian actor Sam Heughan, were choked up when filming started. She said: “I’m still in the middle of shooting but it is our last season. I just flew in this morning and I’m flying back tomorrow.
“It’s a strange thing to be at the end but still have five months to go. We had our first read through about a month ago and we all got a bit choked up.
“I think it’s… we’ve been together for over ten years and for better or worse we’re totally a family. We’ve all sort of grown up on that show in a way. It’ll be so sad to say goodbye to it.”
The details of the season finale have been kept under wraps and even Caitriona has been kept in the dark of the juicy details. The Irish star said: “I don’t even know what’s happening at the end. They’re keeping it all very top secret. What we do know is that you can never please everybody so I think we all just hope they make what they hope and believe is the best version that they want to do.
“And then we just have to hope that people aren’t too upset.” She jokingly added: “But they’re going to get a prequel so they’ll forget about us quite quickly.”
Caitriona also revealed how she’ll be spending her downtime after filming wraps, saying: “I mean there’s going to be a holiday for sure. I’ll be straight on a plane, somewhere on a beach, drink in my hand.”
